Nelson's Travelers Rest Cabins and Motel

Stayed the night before our trip to Isle Royale. I was thoroughly impressed and pleased. Very, very clean cabin rooms. Very comfortable beds. Hosts were so nice and easy to talk to and work with. Nice place, I'll use again!

Me and my other-half decided to make a small trip to Grand Marais for his birthday. I normally use Trailside cabins, but they were booked solid. Luckily, Nelson’s had Cabin #7 open, so we booked it in advance. We stayed for 2 nights, and the cabin was cozy, charming, and very clean. We used the fireplace one night, and the fireplace made it very warm (almost hot) inside the small cabin. Despite the bathroom being small, there’s a cute little alcove with plenty of room for holding towels and bathroom items. The kitchen was small but efficient, the staff was very nice, the grounds were clean and well kept, and it’s 2 miles from town so you cannot go wrong. There are only 2 cons to this cabin, hence the subtraction of 1 star. The bed is really firm, and the walls in this cabin are SO thin. I

First time staying at Nelson’s Travelers Rest and we were extremely impressed with the accommodations, hospitality, and price. Our “motel room” felt more like a cabin with a beautiful wood interior, homey touches, a front porch sitting area, very comfortable beds, and impeccable cleanliness throughout. The grounds offered a picnic table, campfire pit and small playground. The owners were friendly and welcoming. Overall, a very peaceful and comfortable property at a very affordable price. We will be back!

I regularly take classes at the North House Folk School and always stay at Nelson's when they are open (not always open for May or October classes). The cabins are immaculately clean, rates are great, owners are friendly. Love, love, this place! Have stayed here many times and never had a bad experience.

We loved our stay here! You can walk to downtown grand marais which my husband and I did in the morning to get coffee from Java moose 🫎 also the little one bedroom cabin has all you need!! Even a full kitchen which made it cost effective for us in terms of meals :) very friendly staff & great price - definitely recommend!
