Best Western Plus Bloomington East Hotel

An unexpected stop on a trip through Bloomington lead my sister and I to this Best Western. Typically, Best Westerns have a good reputation for being clean and comfortable places to stay. However, this one was an anomaly. Once we checked in, we made our way down a dingy, dirty hallway and into the elevator, which looked like it hadn't been cleaned or vacuumed in days.||Our rooms were subpar in many respects. The doors looked like they hadn’t been damaged and had never been repainted. There were no covers on the peepholes, which is a security concern.||In my room, the lighting was inadequate. It was so dark that I could barely see. It was probably a good thing, because upon closer examination, there was dirt, dust and vegetation along the perimeter of the bed and walls. This hotel made a great first impression with a bright, modern, cheerful lobby and friendly staff. The hallways were also bright and smelled nice. Breakfast was decent. The experience inside the room was disappointing. The room was on the smaller side, especially the cramped bathroom, and the beds were too firm. These were minor issues, however. More concerning was the cockroach crawling around in the bathroom and a used blood glucose testing strip I found on the floor by one of the beds.

I needed to be changed rooms 3 times due to safety concerns and smells. After walking a long distance from the front counter, passing dirty floors and carpet, and tired looking halls, the deadbolt of my first room would not lock. The hallway smelled like terrible body odor. I was moved to a second room that was missing a telephone and smelled bad. I needed to call using my cell phone to notify the front desk to change me to a 3rd room. This room lacked basic cleanliness. The tub had a dirty bottom that had not been cleaned in months. I found a fingernail on the carpet from a previous guest. My pillows smelled like bedhead. I did not want to use the coffee maker in the room, take a shower, and eat at the breakfast buffet knowing basic cleaning wasn't done. I was glad to leave. I've stayed a

Positive: Centrally located, clean, comfortable bed, attractive room, helpful staff. Negative: Hot water wasn?t working and sink drained slowly. I could have changed rooms but chose not to.

Violated my privacy. I had the privacy sign up and they came in my room while I was gone. Not only were my personal items exposed, to include my underwear, they also moved my electronics to place a lamp in my room. There was no prior notice or other reason for entry. I feel beyond violated. When I asked the front desk person about it, she said sorry, the manager told the staff to do it, offering no compensation. The next morning, a nicer front desk lady gave me $30 off (of an over $800 stay) and said she would have the manager reach out.. I've yet to hear back.||||Also I stayed 9 nights and was planning to have my room cleaned once. They came in on the day I didn't put up my privacy sign as expected, however they didnt change my sheets and my bed was full of dirt and crumbs when I returned
