Spent another beautiful week at Bearskin Lodge! We had 2 clear nights… had never before seen such beautiful stars! We enjoyed skiing with perfect temps… trails were in pristine condition (thanks to the trail groomer who is up in the wee morning hours to groom the trails!). So lovely to come back to a toasty warm cabin. We also took advantage of the “Take and Bake” pizza for the first night that Bearskin offers— the pizza cooked up beautifully and was delicious as well! Front desk staff were always friendly and helpful with anything we needed. Thank you, Bearskin— we hope to return again soon!
I was hesitant about picking up the BWCA permit from a lodge and outfitter, since I have my own equipment. However, due to issues at the ranger station I opted to pick it up here. The quality of service from beginning to end was exceptional. The gal at the front desk was very engaging, polite and balanced the needs of the lodge guests while also making sure we got our permit issued in a timely manner. This lodge also provides such things as firewood for the campground nearby before heading into the BWCA. Next time I go in on Easter Bearskin Lake, I will definitely be using this lodge for permit and last minute comforts!
I really love this place. It's half-way across the country for us, so we go just once a year. We love to cross-country ski, so we always go in the winter. They do a beautiful job maintaining their ski trails and grooming, even when there is frequent snowfall. The ski trails are very convenient to the cabins. You can walk out your door, grab your skis, and it's just a short walk to the start of their trails. I love not having to get in the car to go ski. On days we don't want to ski, it is so pleasant just to sit in the cabin, relax, read, watch the birds, and enjoy nature. We were in Cabin 11 this year. It is lovely and spacious. We cook our meals up there, and our kitchen was fully furnished, which was great. That included dishes, glasses, pots and pans, a toaster, kitchen uten
I love where this lodge is, and it is great that every cabin has access to a private dock right on the lake. However, our cabin that we had this past Labor Day weekend was so dirty, particularly the floors, that I cleaned it before I felt okay enough to let me toddlers walk around. I wiped the floor after my daughter spilled something, and the paper towel was completely black. I understand that a lot of guests use the cabins so I don't expect the carpets to be completely clean and I would expect the floors to not be as clean as at my home per se, but I do expect that they be cleaned on a regular basis. And it was obvious that the floors in this cabin had not been cleaned in a very long time.
Always has the greatest snow for cross-country skiing! Bearskin Lodge is so quaint. Helpful staff, nice little store, and tastey soup or chili to warm you up.
