WHOLE Family - Wholestyl

I had a really unfortunate experience at this hostel. I booked earlier in the day through Expedia and was promised check-in instructions via email within 30 minutes. Despite contacting them multiple times that evening, I received no response. The instructions finally arrived at 1:00 AM, leaving me stranded outside for over an hour in the middle of the night. Once inside, the experience did not improve. Other guests were extremely rude, yelling at me and making me feel uncomfortable. The bunk beds were child-sized, and I ended up having to rest in a living room recliner. On top of that, the restroom was dirty, and I saw cockroaches in the shower area. The community here is great. Junior is the host is fantastic. Dylan the house steward is very helpful and welcoming. The management is level-headed and supportive. The owner is very charitable and trusting. Be prepared to help out with the little things and it will make your stay even more comfortable. I prefer to stay here than having my own place. I booked a private room with the expectation that I'd actually be able to access the building. The property seemed near-abandoned and unwelcoming, with signs warning visitors to call the police if certain people were seen on site. I ended up unable to even get inside, despite knocking, ringing the doorbell/camera, and calling the corporate number and the number listed on the reservation (which kept going to voicemail after a few rings). I finally decided to give up and book a bunk at the HI in the actual city. On a positive note there were some very friendly cats nearby who waited with me until my ride arrived to get me the hell out of there.

My experience with WHOLE Family was a positive one. They are a hostel so you have a choice between private or shared lodging. Either one you choose, they have some of the best rates I've seen for lodging in California. There are both temporary and lease options for long term stays. The service provided is above average. The home and bedding are cleaned daily and the customer relations are will tended. I would recommend anything to stay with WHOLE Family during their stay here in California.
