Norfolk Waterside Marriott

What a great surprise this hotel gave us! We went for a recent convention. The room was great on the corner and looking over the river. Decorated well. Updated and felt a little fancy but not too much. Parking deck was easy and convenient to get in and out and parking price was very reasonable. Check in was a breeze. Coffee in the lobby was perfect. Room was clean. Bathroom was big. Bed was nice. We loved how walkable that area was too. So many food options close by of all styles.

Positive: The location. Affordable parking was across the street on a walk way. Multiple places within walking distance to enjoy. Staff quickly addressed issues. Negative: We had a problem with the door to the room. all the doors on my floor were hung to rub and be difficult to open. The bolt on the door got stuck in the lock and the electronic key card could not get it to retract without jostling the door the last night

We checked in late on Christmas night and Zoe gave my family and I such a warm and professional greeting. She made our check-in so easy and seamless. She was very personable and connected with us in a way that went beyond conventional customer service. The property overall clean and nicely decorated for the holidays; the rooms were also recently updated. Love the location right in the middle of downtown Norfolk, nice views from our room and walkable to everything. Would definitely stay here again!

We ate dinner at the restaurant Capo Capo. Our meal was very good and arrived perhaps a little late. The waitress seemed to be elsewhere and I will leave it at that. We paid the check and left. The next day, I checked my bank statement as I often do, and found our charge for the meal as well as another unauthorized charge for twice the amount of our correct bill. After several phone calls, it has been 3 days and there has been zero accountability from Marriott on this issue. We had to file a claim with our bank.

Upon check-in, we were informed that we would have access to the “M Club,” which we had previously accessed. However, upon attempting to access the club later, we were denied entry. After speaking with the non-professional front desk agent, we were informed that lifetime members do not have access and that our key had been removed. When we requested to speak with a manager, we were informed that the hotel is undergoing ownership changes. I strongly advise against staying at this hotel and will not consider it for future accommodations.
