Extended Stay America Suites- Washington D.C. - Herndon - Dulles

The first room they gave me had roaches in them. One dead and one alive… who knows how much more there was that I didn’t see. Smh. it was still early in the day too so I was shocked to see any roaches in the daytime! I went to exchange rooms and the guy that helped me out was so sincerely sweet and apologetic. Overall they need to fix the condition of the hotel expeditiously.

I’m not a super picky person. I understand that for a good price you need to compromise on quality. That being said, having seen multiple rooms, this hotel is in extremely rough shape. Holes in the walls. Holes in the carpet. Rusty fixtures. Torn upholstery. Exposed circuit breaker panels. Broken window rails. Noisy AC units. Water stains. Suffocating scent of cigarettes and citrus. Beyond just being outdated, this location is extremely poorly maintained. Even an outdated hotel room can be nice if the drywall is repaired, paint is touched up, chairs are replaced, ozone scent cleaning, etc, etc. These are all fixable problems that are being consistently neglected. Most importantly, this location is not safe. During my thirty minute stay a fresh crime scene blocked my car from leaving the

Positive: Dark and quiet room. Good for sleep. Negative: Yes, a few things. Sloppy grout work in the bathroom. Dried up washcloth from previous customer hanging on the shower curtain rod in the bathroom. Elevator didn't work. Front desk clerk was impersonal and a bit short with me.

Inexpensive. Everything seems clean except for the TV remote. Towels, sheets, were all clean. There is a kitchen but you have to ask for dishes. The room smelled of weed or cigarettes. There's no counter in the bathroom to hold toiletries.

The only good thing about the property is the location. It definitely doesn't deserve a 4-star rating. It seems like it hasn't been updated since the Nixon era. The cleanliness was poor; when I spilled some water and wiped it up with a white washcloth, it turned brown. You have to get plates and utensils from the front desk, and you need to bring your dirty towels there to exchange for clean ones. I won't stay here again and will avoid Extended Stay Properties in the future.
