Courtyard by Marriott Norfolk Downtown

The gentleman at the valet were exceptional. When we drove up (1/17/26) Mr. Mark Jones took his time and excellent care of our bags and car. Ms. Logan checked us in and gave us very helpful information regarding the best way to get to our cruise ship. Upon our departure Mr. Jermaine Walker with the Valet service was kind and considerate as well. Edilen at the front desk was kind an helpful with our checkout and credited our breakfast as it was complimentary with the resevation. Also when we came down for breakfast around 830am on Sunday 1/18/26 there we 3 staff members at the desk (Edilen was not there), none of them spoke or asked if we needed anything. Everything was really good! I only marked slightly down on "cleanliness", but it was more because of the way the bathroom was built. Condensation from showering gathered on the entire floor very easily and made the whole floor damp (I ensured the shower was not leaking any, it was not). I believe this would be because there seemed to be no exhaust fan? But I understand this isn't something that could be easily fixed. I had a great time and the receptionists were all amazing!

Ok so let's start with my biggest issue. I was taking a shower and looked at the side of the bottle of conditioner and found a bunch of pubic hairs. Not great. Also by the end of the stay so Thursday with a check out date being a Saturday i ran out of body wash and they never replaced it. Some of the valet drivers weren't very responsive either. All in all not the greatest experience. The bed was very hard. I had trouble sleeping. The room was otherwise clean. The heat worked great. Minimal noise outside. Location was great. Just expected better that's all.

It was an ok marriott. Water pressure was lacking for sure. Bistro is a no go and closed Tuesday and Wednesday during my time there. Bistro was only open for breakfast and all food was just packaged. Parking was a nice with the valet. Spend the extra on the parking. Everything is walkable. Avoid the mall its a ghost town with a few shops open and many businesses are closed up.

When Marriott's Autograph Collection hotel in Norfolk was booked solid, I booked Courtyard Marriott as a back up because I've had good experiences with them in the past. To say this the exact opposite of all of my Marriott stays (I'm a brand loyalist) would be an understatement. I'm surprised Marriott even wants to lend its brand name to this hotel. It is EXTREMELY rundown and dirty. My first room reeked of must and cat pee. I switched rooms and the second reeked as well. The room was dark, dingy and musty. Fixtures coming off of the walls. Mold in the bathroom. The AC was terrible (set on 60 when I came in but felt no cooler than 68). Outlets by the bed didn't work. It was LOUD until 3 am. Elevator was rundown. The key to my door didn't work until after the 10th try each time, took me at
