Candlewood Suites Southfield

This was a horrible experience! We picked this location based on a family funeral we were in town for. Upon checking into our room, we found the bed was filthy! We pulled back the covers to find hair and crumbs and stains in the sheets! There were food crumbs everywhere, in the chair, on the desk, and floor. The silverware had not been cleaned at all. After being told by the front we were not allowed to change rooms due to policy, he finally agreed to come down and look at our room. Once he saw how disgusting it was, he then told us it didn't surprise him because they've been having trouble with housekeeping. The second room we were moved to was even worse! The Candlewood Suites in Southfield is a reliable choice, especially for longer stays in the Detroit area. The biggest asset is the room setup—the full kitchenette with a fridge, microwave, and dishwasher truly makes the space feel like a comfortable temporary apartment, which is a huge convenience.The staff were notably friendly and attentive, ensuring a smooth check-in and addressing any small needs quickly. The location offers easy access to the surrounding business areas and major highways. While it lacks some frills like a complimentary breakfast, the availability of a free laundry room and the 24-hour Candlewood Cupboard market makes up for it. The room was clean and provided a quiet, comfortable base for my visit.

A no frills hotel with kitchenette. The online room pics looked somewhat similar to Hilton Home2, so I thought I'd try it for the price, but alas it truly is much more on the budget side. You get what you pay for. The room I was given had basic furnishings, mismatched hangers, small stocked kitchenette, bathroom was simple, towels scratchy but clean. Thankfully the bed was also clean and comfortable. ||Do note there's NO breakfast, so if you want that, stay elsewhere or bring stuff in. The walls are thin, I heard TVs, thumping, clicking, plumbing, talking, etc all night, and despite being advertised as non-smoking the place smelled like cigarettes (in the elevator, halls, bathroom).||The check-in staff was very nice, but as a single woman traveler, I didn't feel truly safe. The night staff was extremely rude. She called us racist remarks and called the police on us. She refused to refund the deposit and would not tell us why or show us where in the policy it says that we broke any rules. When the police came they said that they are always called up here due to her having issues with customers. We had to go over her head to corporate ro get our money refunded. NO ONE should ever be treated, threatened, or talked to the way that we were. The whole interaction was recorded and I will be posting on every social media platform if she is not fired.

If I could rate 0 stars I would. Do NOT stay at this hotel. Our reservation was for 12/29/25 (reservation was not under my name, but under my girlfriend's name). There was nobody at the desk when we arrived. We eventually were given our room key. Immediately upon opening the door to our room, there was a VERY strong/disgusting odor. We went to the front desk to request a new room and the staff there said she could not switch rooms. This was around midnight so there was no manager on-site. We asked the staff member to come to the room to smell for herself, but she said she could "not leave her desk" despite not being at the front desk when we arrived.
