Surf and Sand Lodge

This was by far my favorite hotel on our 2 week Pacific Coast Highway roadtrip. We enjoyed stepping out our patio door & getting to take a walk in the beach, we loved sitting out on the balcony watching the sunset, watching for whales & listening to the waves crashing. Very nice room, spacious, the staff was great, overall excellent hotel. Also the rates were very reasonable. 10/10 highly recommend staying here.

Great place to stay! I love that the buildings are made to look like 2-story homes. When you walk in the front door, you feel like you just walked into your house, and the rooms are designed to look like they are the bedrooms of the home. Doesn't feel like a motel at all! Very nice touch.||Awesome beach access! You walk out the sliding glass door of the room right onto a 10-mile access road with trails that go right to the beach below. A super easy walk, even for someone w foot issues like hubs has.||Room was very nice & clean, plenty of pillows and an extra blanket already in the closet. And it had everything else we could need, too...iron & board, hairdryer, coffee & pot, etc. I also love that the towels were cream colored & soft, not bleached white, scratchy and smelling of pool chlorin

This hotel is all about the location for us, its right on the ocean with beautiful views & wonderful fresh air. Dog friendly. There is a multi-use road between the hotel & beach used by dog walkers, joggers, bike riders, etc. We have family in town, so we've stayed here several times in the past couple years. Really good customer service/friendly staff.

Positive: The view from the balcony was amazing! The beds are comfortable and it was very clean. Negative: The heater thermostat didn't work properly. The choice was to keep it at 60 degrees or to be hot. When we told the employee at the end of our stay, he didn't offer us any sort compensation, such as a discount for a future stay.

The location and view are excellent. It is steps from the ocean, and the view from the upstairs room is majestic. It is steps from ocean trails. The exterior is in good shape, but the interior is run down and shabby. That is true of the lobby and the common interior spaces. The stairways are dark and carpeted in black. I nearly fell going down. It is a legitimate hazard. The room furnishings and fixtures are old and look terrible. The shower barely drained. Major upgrades are necessary.
