Sonesta Select Newport Middletown

Positive: I've stayed here a few times before and come back for the reasonable cost and being off the main road, it's always empty and quiet in the off-season. The beds are comfortable and it's just a 5-minute walk to the 15-minute bus ride to Newport or Bristol Negative: NOT a 3-star hotel. 2.5 more like it. Has potential to be a 3 star if the bathrooms were ever properly cleaned...always mold everywhere. Breakfast is just stale bagels/boxed cereal and NOT complimentary which is petty. $100 security deposit is excessive.

After booking my reservation 3rd party, I called the hotel to follow up on a few details. I mainly wanted to learn about the pool and on site dining options. The woman who answered the phone was so rude and absolutely awful I canceled my stay and booked elsewhere. I wish I could have caught her name after we spoke but she hung up on me when I asked. True, Indigenous People's Day is a busy holiday so I get she was probably tired and a little stressed. (Definitely not the busiest of holidays though, especially for Aquidneck Island.) Some advice and something we often say in the hospitality industry: If you can't take the heat, get out of the kitchen.

The hotel is in a decent location near to Newport. There is plenty of free on site parking. There are ample diners and restaurants all within a 1-3 minute drive of the hotel. The double queen bed rooms were clean with sufficient space for a family of three. The front desk staff was kind and helpful. The swimming pool was smaller than we are used to from similar hotels and the jacuzzi was broken during our visit. The water in the pool also was cold. My child and others swam once and did not want to swim again because the water was so cold that they were shaking in their towels after exiting the pool. There is no warm breakfast served. There is a small Cafe with muffins, bagels, etc one can buy, heat up, and eat. The price $246 for two nights was somewhat fair for the room size but the

Highlight was the price per night when booked via third party for about $66+ tax per night. Which is a great price compared to other hotels on the island. Always book 3rd party for best price for any hotel on island. Switched to this hotel last minute for better price. Visually our room 171, looked updated, and was clean. Room has tiny mini fridge, no microwave in room, but there is one in lobby. Bed was not very comfortable and was hard, and pillows were small and sunk a lot, didn’t sleep well during stay. Walls are very thin, we could hear conversations and all noises from our neighbors including their wake up alarms. Hot tub was nice, indoor pool was cold. Their breakfast for sale is pitiful. But we had no plans to wake up for a breakfast, and wanted to eat out so that was fine. No clea

I stayed there in October 2025. When I placed food on the table near the TV, bugs swarmed to the area. They told me engineering had checked the hotel for bugs prior to my stay and found none. The swimming pool had duct tape to keep cold air from coming in from outside which wasn’t working. I informed them about the bugs and the customer service representative did not have any remorse and basically said life is full of bugs when you’re on the first floor.
