Rodeway Inn Kansas City Downtown Area

This hotel is not located in a good part of town. Did I feel safe? Yes. But is the city taking care of its people? No. There were innumerable homeless people sleeping in large groups and a lot of people who were obviously struggling in other ways as well. It was dirty. The hotel itself was not great. It's all fenced in with wrought iron, like a prison. You can tell someone tried to make an effort to make the place look nice. There was a nice mirror and the blue and white blanket on the bed, though it seemed thin, was warm and pretty. However, the room was not clean. The floors looked like they had not been swept, the entry door and bathroom doors were both dirty and damaged, the entry door was not sealed properly (you could see light between the doorframe and door), and the bathroom door h

Do not get a room here unless you are down on your luck or like dumpy motel rooms. Our first bad experience was opening the door to our room and getting a whiff of the chemicals they used to clean the room. Then there was a dead roach lying next to the door on the inside. Then the shower knob was rusted and I had to play with it to get water pressure and hot water. The entire bldg is dirty and run down. The price for the room was $90 and a deposit was $50. The only reason we didn't leave was because I got sick during our trip and I needed somewhere to rest.

Front desk folks were nice but, told me I had booked a smoking room (absolutely did not and would NEVER), They told me that all their rooms on Booking.com are SMOKING. But, I showed them my confirmation with NONSMOKING selected. My room was not especially clean - mirror was streaky and help me LORD the sheets were NOT clean. ||I immediately asked for and was given a new room. This room looked newly painted, a new bed and clean sheets and the tub was clean. ||This is not an area where a single woman will feel safe walking around which I had hoped to be able to do. It is in a rather run down part of town so I cut my walk very short. I found it to be a good place to stay. I was happy to see that the room had a microwave, hair dryer, ironing board and iron. I did not use all of these things, but they are good things to have in a room. However, I was disturbed that there are no grab bars in the shower. I feel very unsafe showering in a bathtub when there is nothing to grab if I slip.

The motel's in a very dangerous part of town, which was not apparent at all when we booked the stay. The motel's representation online (pictures) isn't accurate to the reality at all. The room we booked had a bug infestation, and the AC unit was broken (completely inoperable). The clerk at the desk was nice enough, and did accommodate us in a single unit which was slightly better. Overall, your motel should be condemned. It's not safe, it's not well maintained at all, it's dirty and ill equipped. Worst of all, I had no real ability to just leave and get another hotel because we drove there from three hours away for a concert, and with that show and the NFL game today, all rooms are pretty much booked.
