Residence Inn by Marriott Rocky Mount

I booked the Residence Inn in Rocky Mount, NC somewhat reluctantly because I had read several negative reviews. I’m glad I decided to give it a chance—I was pleasantly surprised. The room was very clean and well equipped, with everything I needed for a comfortable 3-night stay. The linens were fresh, the bathroom and kitchen area were spotless, the bed was comfortable, and the overall condition of the room felt well cared for. While the decor is definitely dated, it didn’t matter much to me because the cleanliness really stood out—from the room itself to the common areas and the grounds, which were also clean and maintained. 2 stars because the location just off I-95 is very convenient, and the staff was friendly. Do keep in mind, not many food options and parking is shared with the Courtyard that is located across the lot. However, the check-in experience was a bit disappointing. As Gold Elite members, we weren’t acknowledged and had to ask for complimentary bottled waters. We received the mini bottles. After a long day of driving, we mainly needed rest. The room was acceptable overall, but cleanliness was an issue. There was hair left in both the sink and the tub. One pillowcase and a hand towel were stained, though housekeeping did replace the pillowcase when requested. Stayed here for one night, we had to change our room initially because there was an issue with the toilet in the first room. The hotel overall is nice, comes equipped with everything you need, very convenient, breakfast wasn’t too bad either. My only issue with the hotel was the staff. The staff setting up breakfast were very kind and sweet. The two ladies I saw at the front desk were short, unpleasant, but helpful nonetheless. They seem to meet the bare minimum of the job description. I feel like this could easily be a 5-star location if the staff cared just a bit more about their job. The room itself was nice but there were some stains on the wall, shower head had a weird cutout around it and dust laid on top of the shower handle suggesting that it was cut just before we entered the room

The location is convenient, but the property is in clear need of maintenance and an overall update. My room was acceptable at first glance. Nothing fancy, but that is fine if you are only there to sleep. However, several issues made the stay uncomfortable. There appeared to be mold inside one of the drawers and also in the closet area. That alone is concerning. The most serious issue was a section of carpet that was missing, with exposed nails sticking out. I almost stepped on it and could have easily been injured. I ended up placing a towel over the area so I would not accidentally step on it during the night. That is not something a guest should have to manage. Service was average.
