Red Roof Inn & Suites Newark - University

Pulled off the road due to fatigue and just wanted a place to put my head down. Manager on duty was great and accommodating. Needed a first floor room because I was traveling with a pet and got what I asked for. Now- in truth, the place isn't very pretty inside. Carpet and furnishings do show quite a bit of wear. That said -the room interior was clean and I feel that it was very worth the money spent.

I first came to the USA in 2021, and during my travels I stayed at Red Roof Inn several times—usually when driving from Cambridge, Canada to Florida. Each stay was excellent; the rooms were clean, and everything was well-maintained. Based on those positive experiences, I insisted that my husband book Red Roof again last night. Unfortunately, this time the experience was completely different. The room was not clean, and there were cockroaches. Because of that, I requested a room change during the night and even took photos as evidence. However, the replacement room was on the same floor, and I was unable to sleep the entire night. What made it more disappointing is that just the night before, we stayed at a 2-star motel in Virginia Beach which was much cleaner, included breakfast, and was

Positive: The room was clean. But that’s completely it. Negative: The water would not get hot. I had to take a lukewarm or cool, shower and the air conditioner wouldn’t stay off so it was pretty cold. There was a roach in the tub and the bed was uncomfortable because you can kind of feel the springs in them.

This hotel is a dump. It’s filthy inside and out, unsafe with outside doors that do not lock, overflowing garbages and rat traps outside doors. Aging infrastructure is one thing, but peeling paint, broken furniture, missing parts of bathroom infrastructure, absolutely disgusting stained rugs, hallways that smell like urine covered up by cloying air fresheners and no lighting is another. If there were another option for UD parents weekend we would 100% have not checked in upon arrival.

We arrived and signed a paper about the place being a non smoking hotel... When we walked into the hallway the door hits you in the face. A mixture of stale smoke & musty odors is prevalent. The vacuum being used in the hallway is horrible! I can't tell you how that smelled when we walked down another hall being "cleaned" Unfortunately we had to kill several ROACHES during our brief stay. The hotel offered to change our room but by the state of this hotel- roaches are the ones running this place! If we had the ability to leave in the middle of the night when a roach crawled across my belongings, I would have. Unfortunately we prepaid for 2 nights here and they were not going to do anything but move us to another disgusting situation. I highly suggest finding another option if you can
