Hotel Catalina

My wife and I honeymooned at Hotel Catalina back in June 1986, and it instantly became a cherished part of our story. Nestled on a beautiful island, the hotel offered everything we had hoped for — warm hospitality, peaceful surroundings, and a sense of romance that made our first days as newlyweds unforgettable. Thirty-one years later, we came back and Hotel Catalina welcomed us with the same warmth and beauty we remembered. That balcony view still made us pause and smile, and the whole experience felt like stepping back into a treasured chapter of our lives. We hope to return again someday, and when we do, Hotel Catalina will once again be our home. It’s not just a hotel to us — it’s a place where memories live and love continues to grow.

CONS (but bear with me): This hotel is sorely in need of upgrades. The light switches look like they're from the 1960's (or earlier?). I don't mean that as exaggeration for effect. Also, please know that the hot tub does not work and the front desk clerk mentioned that it has been shut down for good, covid or no covid, due to pipe leaks.||On the plus side, the rooms themselves while small and slightly shabby are super clean and tidy. This is no "fleabag hotel." The beds and bedding are comfortable. The shower works great, the towels are fluffy, and the tap water is also oddly delicious. We felt quite cozy in our room. We paid $540 for two days. We arrived during a heat wave, should have read the hotel amenities, no AC. We had no shower because the shower is broken. It only has hot water. Day 2 changing rooms, maintenance is here, he said the valve in the wall needs replaced. I asked for a room like ours, she said that the one below us is rented and we will be in another room on the second floor but no patio attached. I said "then can we get $100.00 off, it's hot no shower or AC, she said you should have read on the website,no air conditioning. I said " We need a shower to cool off".The scalding hot water event last night, 100 shower degrees weather, no AC and my husband is handicapped, his back can't handle the hot water. lot a money. We aren't rich. studio 9 could have upgraded us.

Beautiful old hotel. Lovely verandas on every floor. Coffee and oatmeal 'breakfast'. Hot tub and BBQ are not working. Do not give you towels for the beach. All good for the price. Would stay here again.

We've stayed here several times, and the rooms are generally tiny. Even the cottage is cramped. I imagine this is common on the island along with a lack of deep cleaning. Mildew in poorly caulked openings, grime in the tub, gaping screens in the windows. This time, we got a room with a tub. The room was surprisingly big (comparatively), but the tub did not have a stopper, and the front desk was suggested finding the hardware store to buy one ourselves. The tub is the draw for this room and an upcharge, so for it to unusable is ridiculous. The girl working the desk when we arrived was great! She left to another job, and the guy who took over was not. 15 minutes later, when we asked about the stopper, there was another lady at the front desk. Understand that rooms on the island are mainta
