Hotel Atwater

Hotel was amazing. Went to Descanco Beach. Maureen set us up with a fantastic cabana for our friends birthday. She was gracious and extremely helpful. Our server Jesse was the best! We couldn’t be happier. We live in Philadelphia and will recommend Atwater and Descanco to all our friends. We will be back!

Traveled by ferry to Catalina Dec 31, 2025-Jan 2, 2026 and we could not have picked a better spot. We are frequent travelers but never to Avalon. After checking the positive reviews we selected Hotel Atwater and after seeing many of the options I could not have been happier. Location is perfect. It is a modern hotel with great history and design. I was late scheduling during a busy New Years weekend, but managed a king room. They may have been larger than ours which of given a choice I might have opted for, but it was perfect for what it needed to be. Clean, comfortable, modern and classy all at the same time. I found a Black Friday deal at this hotel and booked it as a Christmas gift for my partner -- it ended up being the perfect weekend escape from the chaos and busyness of SoCal. We booked in the off season when the island was very quiet and that was such a nice way to explore it. I'd recommend booking a slightly larger room if you're able to as the smallest option is quite small. We chose the upgraded king room and it was a lot more spacious than the classic room, very much worth the cost to upgrade. The room was clean, the hotel is beautiful, but the staff stood out. We asked for an early check in and they got it for us. Chris was so kind at the front desk and left a handwritten note and bottle of champagne which made our evening even better. Check in was very smooth. My girlfriend and I were pretty hungry when we arrived and saw The Original Anthony’s across the street , luckily the front desk has a storage area/ bell closet they will hold your luggage free of cost while you are away. Great location , clean clean rooms, water pressure and quality was luring , and great Concierge service for extra towels and whatever you may need. Breakfast is available to preorder for the next day, via QR code . We will have to take advantage of that next time .

I had a very poor experience at this hotel, especially considering it was the night of my birthday. I barely slept at all. There was constant loud banging and noise coming from the hallway, along with people talking loudly. Several times I opened my door and saw that the room across from mine had its door open and someone was fixing something, with continuous pounding on the walls and doors. On top of that, whenever the guests upstairs used the toilet and flushed, it sounded as if the water was rushing directly above my head—the noise was extremely loud and disturbing. That night, I also took a shower, and when I tried to dry my hair, I realized the hair dryer was broken. I called the front desk, and it took about half an hour for them to bring me a replacement.
