Homewood Suites by Hilton Carlisle

It seems my past review was deleted so I will write it again. I stayed there at the Homewood Suites some weeks ago for a few nights and I was treated poorly by the breakfast staff. For context I am not white and I felt very uncomfortable. I went downstairs for breakfast and 2 staff was working breakfast, a woman and a tall man. No hello or good morning. I didn’t think anything of it until more guests ( all white guests) came for breakfast and every single one of them got nice greetings and they chatted with the guests. I had smiled at the lady and she just turned away. The next few days it was the same thing, I did not receive any welcoming and I received stares from the breakfast staff. The staff is very professional and friendly. The facility is fairly new and well maintained. They should not advertise that they have a pool because the water temperature was 68 degrees F the 2 days that I checked with a pool thermometer. I notified the front desk and no change in temperature. Industry standard is 80 to 86 degrees F.

My company chose this location for my stay based on the close proximity to the office. It was easy to navigate to (save for a wee bit of confusion near some road work close to the hotel). When I first walked in, I was very pleasantly surprised. Being fragrance-sensitive, I was a bit affected by the level of fragrance that was being used - thankfully it was only in the lobby area, and wasn't in the room/hallways. The room I was given was a King 'suite'. It was pleasant, despite some damage on the coffee table in front of the sofa. I noticed that the bathroom floor looked 'dirty', so I used a hand towel and water to see what would come up - it was very dirty. The high point of this location is the staff, especially Gina, the kitchen manager. She was a sweetheart. She runs a great kitchen and the breakfast was wonderful, as was the social night, thanks to Gina. The place is also the cleanest hotel I have seen in a long time, and I felt safe. However, one caveat...if you do not do well with a hard mattress, this is not the place for you. It's like they ran out of their medium comfort mattresses and put an extra firm in. I had the worst first night and didn't sleep, until I went to buy a mattress topper. I went in a day early, just to rest up and that did not happen. At this price point, I should not have had to buy a 100 dollar mattress topper, but that is the only way I could stay through my reservation period. I'm not sure what happened to t

We had an excellent stay. The room was spacious and very clean, and the entire hotel was kept in great condition. The front desk staff greeted us every time we walked in, which made the stay feel welcoming. Breakfast was well done and had everything we needed. Every staff member we interacted with was friendly and professional. Highly recommend this hotel and can’t wait until our next visit.
