Hilo Reeds Bay Hotel

If you are an adventure traveler, this is your spot! Read the decription of this hotel, in full. This hotel takes you back to the 1960s, pre A/C. Our room was clean. It had a kitchenette with full size fridge, microwave and a sink. King size bed was comfy, pillows were a variety from soft to firm, so you have choices. Sleeping in fresh air! The no A/C was not a big deal, the room had a ceiling fan and there was a floor fan we put in the window, and slept with the window open. It got cool enough in the night to need all the blankets.

I had a great stay here! Yes, the building is older, the Wi-Fi is slow, and there’s no elevator or AC, but once I got to my super-clean room with that gorgeous ocean view, none of that mattered. I spent hours just listening to the waves and doing absolutely nothing, and it felt like being transported back to the simple, cozy seaside trips from my childhood. Pure nostalgia. It’s also in a great spot: there’s a little beach within walking distance where my toddler happily played in the sand and water, and downtown Hilo is only about 5 minutes drive with lots of food options. If you’re looking for a modern resort, this isn’t it. But if you want a peaceful, old-school escape that feels like hitting the reset button, it’s perfect. The Wi-Fi was enough for me to casually browse things, though

Stayed at Reeds Bay for 5 days. My 1st time in Hawaii and I loved it. The hotel was nice, it is affordable, very clean, had a little kitchen, private patio, customer service was friendly and professional, we had a great view of the pool and Bay. The only downside was no AC in the rooms, which we were warned before we rented the room, so I can't complain about that. It just would have been much better to have AC. I still enjoyed my stay and I will definitely stay there again in the future. Thank you, for your hospitality. ALOHA 💕

Tired old hotel, no air conditioning or heating. Rooms are concrete walls, doors don’t have an inner lock, sliding doors don’t all work. Lots of steps, no elevators. First room I was given, the sliding doors to the balcony did not lock. They seemed surprised to hear this. I asked for another room and had to go to the third floor, that sliding doors had a lock that worked if you fiddled with it. The main door to your room is a typical bedroom style lock, they give you a key. There is no inner lock. I really did not feel safe in my room here.

Let’s start with the good. The people who run the hotel are very nice. Room was cleaned daily and towels restocked. |No ice machine but they will give you a gallon zip lock bag of ice at the front if you ask. Having a full fridge and a few dishes was convenient.| Ok now to the not so good. No air conditioning! Luckily we had a first floor room with a water view and were able to sleep with the balcony door open. If it weren’t for that I most likely would have left and went elsewhere. They do not have traditional cable. They use streaming service and you can log into your Netflix, Hulu or spectrum service. I am fine with that except for the fact that the internet is not up to par. Could barely watch tv or use WiFi in the room. After running around all day it would be nice to have internet a
