This is a magical Bread and Breakfast place that is old school just like in TV series. Koa and Gay are not just your ordinary hosts, they both have stories of deep Hawai'an history, culture, medicine and island values. They are both artists, Koa does wood and cane artifacts while Gay works with feathers. The breakfast was a sumptuous plate of fresh tropical fruits and Hawaian french toast, a recipe handed down from the original property owners daughter. Try to stay here if you visit the west or southern part of BI.

We had a wonderful time visiting this bed and breakfast. The location is perfect for accessing sights on the Hilo side of the island. Gay & Koa were fantastic hosts. They were willing to share their knowledge of the island and sights to see. We especially enjoyed our trip along the Hamakua Coast and the exhibit at the Wailoa Center was fabulous. The Hilo side of the island is so beautiful. Watching the sun rise in the Samurai Suite is a must see. Mahalo, Gay and Koa, we very much enjoyed our stay with you.

We spent three nights in the Samurai Suite at the Hilo Honu Inn and it was a wonderful experience! Gay and Koa are simply the BEST hosts. The Samurai Suite is roomy and comfortable with great views. Every morning we had a delicious cooked breakfast including tropical fruits and one of the following: sweet bread French toast, eggs and bacon, or Belgian waffles with homemade lilikoi syrup. But the best part of the stay was getting to know the amazing Gay and Koa. They really go the extra mile to talk with their guests, share their passions, and tell interesting and pertinent stories tailored to mutual interests. Both Gay and Koa truly embody the "Aloha Spirit." We would definitely choose to stay at the Hilo Honu Inn again in the future. Thank you again Gay and Koa!

We spent two nights at the Hilo Honu Inn and are sorry that we didn’t stay longer. The location is perfect, downtown area. We had the small room with bath, very clean. The breakfast was exceptional; every day cut up fruits were included from the hosts’ farm/yard. Gay and Kea took time to entertain us while we were eating. We got from them good insides about the Big Island, nature, people, schools, traditions and what to visit. Kea showed us rope making from coconut shells; Gay the all native plants backyard. Highly recommended.||Annamaria and Charles from North Carolina

We loved the Hilo Honu Inn. The hosts are great. They make wonderful breakfasts and are happy and willing to share experiences and thoughts about Hawaii history, culture, traditions and current issues facing Hawaii. We thoroughly enjoyed talking to them every morning. The Samurai Suite is large and offers a view of the ocean. The only issue is that there wasn't AC in that room; however, it cooled down in the evenings and was comfortable sleeping. Highly recommend!!
