Hampton Inn & Suites by Hilton Marshalltown

I'm giving 4 stars with a caveat as there's a couple things that need addressing right away which would bring the stars to 5. It's a very loud hotel. The furnishings are nice and the bed and couch are very comfortable. The gym is excellent. There's a peloton bike and free weights. It's spacious and roomy enough for me to do my floor exercises and the pool is heated and there's coffee, hot chocolate , cookies available all night and all day with tea. Breakfast is a typical. The front desk staff every single one has been super professional and attentive. Drum roll...one of my favorite things is the snack store. Positive: Service and cleanliness Negative: This time, the hot tub is closed and is being removed. Not good. Also, the pool was closed.These are things that bring people to hotel, especially in wintertime. I hope they change their mind

Terrible place to stay!!! Not clean, staff are unconcerned about customer satisfaction. Rooms heating/cooling systems do not work properly and are very outdated noisy if the blower does work. Mold is visible in bathrooms. Paint and wallpaper is peeling throughout the building. Walls are so thin I could clearly hear the conversation in the next room including their sound machine during the night and their alarm system. Main lobby women's bathroom was permanently closed leaving only a men's public restroom. Ice machine did not work. Overly expensive. Due to all these issues, I was afraid to eat the free breakfast for fear of contamination. Do not stay here!! Needs to be closed down.

I wanted to write a better review, but there were too many issues at this hotel that brought it down. Cons: At check in there was no acknowledgement of Hilton Gold status and no complimentary water bottles given. The room had an odd smell, the shower gel dispenser had been torn off the wall, and the fitted sheet on the bed was not the correct size and therefore didn't fit (it had pulled out on all four corners and was just awkwardly set over the top of the mattress). Exercise room: one treadmill didn't work, and for the one that did work the tv was broken. Finally, the hot tub was out of commission and roped off (no mention of that online when booking hotel--and after a long day's drive we had been specifically wanting to relax in a hot tub) and at the bottom of the swimming pool there was

We stayed last night as a stop on the way to Wisconsin. At around 4:15 am we were woken up by loud pounding on the door across the hall. Looking out the peep hole to see what was going on, it was two women trying to get in. This continued on and off for over 30 mins. I attempted to call the front desk and got no answer. Eventually the door was opened and then the loud arguing started. Tried calling the front desk again, no answer. Sometime after 5 am it was finally quiet. When we were checking out, I mentioned that I almost called the police. The front desk people said "they were here, sorry about the noise" the police were never on the 4th floor where all of this happened. I should have asked for a refund or discount, but I was too groggy and needed to get on the road.
