Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Charlottesville Downtown/University Area

I am completely beside myself. When I last stayed at this location 5 years ago it was poorly run by staff that truly didn't know what they were doing . During my last stay, the desk clerk had to go to the back office five times, five separate times, during the check-in process. I have never experienced such a long check in in my life and I've probably stayed at 300 to 350 hotels in all my travels. They didn't alert anyone to the fact that the elevator was broken. This was important since I have been handicapped for a while while recovering from major surgery. And when I checked out, and I had to travel down the dark stairwell, I missed the last step and nearly fail which would have actually resulted in a broken back. We stayed here on a road trip. The front desk personnel were fantastic and easy to ask questions to. The area around the hotel has a nice playground and easy walk to the downtown mall for food. We really liked how close to campus we were to drive over and see that too. The parking was easy as well. Breakfast was good. We have no complaints.

What a wonderful place! All of the staff was super friendly. Our room was very clean and comfortable. Slept like a baby in the comfy beds and with the air conditioning on. Didn't hear any noise at all. The room was clean and breakfast was plentiful and hot. I will continue to stay here when we visit the surrounding area.

I stayed here for three nights due to a snowstorm so I could be closer to work. Check-in was fine, but the overall stay was very disappointing. Hot water was inconsistent and on the second and third nights there was barely any hot water at all, even after running it for several minutes. There was visible mold along the shower seams, which was concerning. The mini fridge froze all of my food, making it unusable. The gym was dusty and had no sanitizing wipes available. On top of that, the room was very noisy — doors opening and closing nearby were loud enough to wake me up at night. I reported the hot water and fridge issues to the front desk and was told an engineer would look at it, but no one ever came before I checked out. Echoing a lot of what I read in the most recent review. Hot water was running out, mini fridge froze all my stuff, gym was extremely hot, pool looked yellow, and towels and sheets were dirty. I found an eyelash extension on my towel and they had several dirty spots in them. When I took it down to the front desk and asked for new towels the didn’t seem ver concerned at all. I understand this is a cheaper hotel but clean towels should always be a given in any hotel.
