Dinsmore Inn at The University

Really enjoyed our stay here. The Inn had a comfy and cozy vibe with lovely touches of antique furniture and history everywhere. The room we stayed in was so spacious, like a small apartment or a studio. There was a large king sized bed that was full of soft fluffy covers and a duvet. There was plenty of seating on the room with two twin chairs and a comfy couch. THANKFULLY the bathroom was updated and I even got a soak in the massive clawfoot tub. The room was fitted with its own mini split for heat, and there was lots of light. We stayed over on New Year’s Eve so unfortunately the restaurant wasn’t open, but they provided a nice breakfast selection in the kitchen on the third floor. We stayed at the Dinsmore Inn in Charlottesville to celebrate our anniversary, and while there were a couple of positives, overall the experience was disappointing. Pros: The bed was comfortable, and the location is great—very convenient for walking around Charlottesville. Cons: Unfortunately, the downsides outweighed the positives. The building is very old, which really showed during our stay. The walls were extremely thin, and there was loud noise from the street that made it hard to relax or sleep. The plumbing was also an issue: the bathtub would not hold water at all, and the sink drained very slowly. The Dinsmore Inn was highly recommended by a close friend. It is a beautiful historic property right in town. The manage, Jake, was extremely gracious and accommodating. His pleasant personality made our stay very relaxing. The Farm Bell Restaurant was excellent with a great chef and staff. Your breakfast is included in the room and there are many special choices on their menu. We will return again,

We recently stayed here during a recent visit to Charlottesville for my mom’s birthday. The room (5) was lovely and very spacious. They had a nice sitting room upstairs with coffee and a fridge. The location was perfect, especially being attached to the Farm Bell Kitchen restaurant, where we ate twice. It was great too. Jake, the Inn Manager, was very helpful. My only caution is that the street noise can get a little loud at times in room 5 because it faces Main Street.

The Dinsmore Inn is so quaint. You can feel the history in every room you enter. The innkeeper/manager, Jake was so helpful with greetings us at check in, making suggestions for dinner or activities in the greater Charlottesville area etc. the location is centrally located to everything within the city and so easy to get to the wineries and presidential homes that surround the town and the University of Virginia. The included breakfast in the adjoining restaurant was delicious with numerous choices. If you like staying in a B&B when traveling then this is the place to stay while in Charlottesville.
