Etoniah State Forest Campground

I reserved a campsite for two days in October (10/24 & 10/25). These days were available on the Reserve America website however, when I arrived there was a sign advising it was closed and the door to the toilet was locked. A hunter that was walking nearby said they close the campsite during hunting season. These dates need to be blocked out on the Reserve America website so people do not inadvertently reserve a site that will not be available. I drove in from Jacksonville which was 1.5 hour trip. I was able to call and get a refund. The campsites did look nice and clean.

As of 4/12/23 Google Maps can't navigate you to this location. However, if you enter the State Forest from the Holloway Rd. entrance and use some common sense you can find this campground. The roads and campsite itself are well maintained so go forth with zeal and enjoy the journey. Nestled in a small grove of low oak trees, this camp ground has plenty of room, a composting toilet, new picnic tables and many options for hikes, drives and bike rides. This spot is amazing and I look forward to returning here again! TICK WARNING: In warmer months ticks are here especially in off road areas. Have a plan. Be prepared.

Very pleasant lime rock roads leading into pleasant live oak hammock with several primitive campsites with new picnic tables, grills and lamp poles. Nice outhouse. Only problem was the nonpotable water pump was not working when we were there, like a bad valve that wasn't allowing pumping to work. Also, it was difficult to make the reservation as the website and brochure had listed incorrect phone numbers and dead email addresses. The lime rock roads around the forest wood seem to be pleasant for light off-road gravel biking.

I love exploring the wildlife here on my etrike or on foot or by car. One campground is closed so check before you go. There are very few picnic tables and liter is more of an issue here than in other State Forest I have explored as evidenced by how full my trash basket was at the end of out last 2 rides here. I have my trike rigged with a trash basket and a grabber so I pick up the liter I find and to date Etoniah SF has been the worst for filling up my basket. Still it is a great place to explore and the trails vary from smooth to super bumpy making it pretty fun.

Great campground. Tricky to find, make sure to follow the confirmation email instructions. The restroom was surprisingly clean. We were at campsite 6, it was spacious and far from the other campsites.
