Comfort Suites Sumter near Shaw AFB

We walked OUT after 3 hours! The desk clerk on duty at our late arrival (9:30 p.m.) was friendly and welcoming. However, all went downhill quickly. The halls smelled of marijuana. The pool is closed for "renovations". The room next door (first floor & first room off lobby so the desk should have been able to hear them) started partying. People continued to knock & pound on next door to enter over the next two hours. We thought we would give them a chance thinking it may calm down by midnight. When the party was continuing to grow, we called the front desk at 12:20 a.m. The shift had changed probably at 11 p.m. A much younger desk clerk knocked on their door announcing herself as "Front Desk". The rooms are immaculate and in excellent condition. Breakfast and coffee have been fresh daily. All staff members are exceptionally friendly and efficient. GM Shonda has ensured that our stay has been above and beyond any other hotel.

My mother booked a king sized suite and they gave her a queen sized regular room after giving her confirmation she could get her original booking, they waited until she paid her money at the desk before letting her know that they couldn’t accommodate her but she was still charged the kind sized suite rate. So she ended up paying for something they didn’t even give her, and to top it off there was no hot water. The people at the desk were nonchalant and gave us the “well we can’t do anything about it” attitude, so we called hotels.com who said they’d refund us, but the hotel manager is fighting with them to keep us from getting a refund even though we got confirmation through hotels.com and got a new room somewhere else. Unfortunately, I must agree with several people who cannot recommend the Comfort Suites in Sumter. I read reviews prior to arriving for a family event and decided that they were mixed enough to reserve a room. I regret it. The hotel is on Broad Street and near many restaurants and businesses, which is great. I arrived shortly after check in began, and the lobby and breakfast area looked decent from front desk observation. I believe that there was a change in shift occurring, because the woman at the front counter counting money looked at me (and the two gentlemen behind me) without greeting any of us. Unfortunately, I can’t recommend Comfort Suites of Sumter. The women that checked me in was great. Friendly, competent, kind. The overnight staff in Saturday night at the customer service desk had a difficult task that even and she was also great. Saturday there was a noise issue in the next room. She had to go up to the room multiple times throughout the night to get them to turn down the music. The reason why I can’t recommend Comfort Suites is the musty smell in the room, the overall upkeep of the bathroom and bedroom. If you walked without shoes the floor felt moist and things would stick to your feet. The bathroom fan didn’t work. Bathroom was rusty, shower rod had been broken and instead of purchasing a new one they put a wood board in the shower. The bedding did feel clean.
