Charleston Tower Hotel

The ONLY reason I gave this hotel a 4/5 is because the Best Western name is still displayed and it took me forever to find it because of that lol. Thankfully, I happened to walk in here after walking and sweating my tail off to ask the young man with dreadlocks at the front desk if he could direct me to the Charleston Tower Hotel. He smiled and informed me that I was there. This young man was very friendly, helpful and professional during my check-in. I see so many complaining about there only being one functional elevator. Be glad they have that one available for your use! As someone who lived in NYC for 2 years, I spent time in a hotel that didn't have one at all! My room was very nice, clean and comfortable. BE AWARE. HIDDEN CHARGE. This hotel instead of charging 13% state and city tax combined, they are charging an extra 1% daily The manager wanted me to believe that the extra charge was a city tax that the guest is required to pay to the city, but I did not buy it. What the manager failed to say was that it is a city tax that the hotel as a business has to pay to the city. In other words, the hotel is getting the money from guests to pay their own city tax debt. Unacceptable. Unethical, especially because they lied to me. They are camouflaging the money they are charging guests to pay their own city tax responsibility by writing on the receipt the following: "Business & Occupational City Tax."||They charge Sales Tax (6%), City Lodging (6%) Municipal (1%) and Business & Occupatio

Overall, there is ALOT of room for improvement. The outside was not maintained, the grass needed cut, the parking lot had trash in it and the curbs/sidewalks were not painted. Only one elevator was in operation and you could barely fit two people in it with luggage. The vending machines were out of order as was the fitness center. The room had some minor modifications done but the carpet needed replaced. The hot water and water pressure were very good however they ran out of towels. There was trash (pizza boxes etc.) outside of another room that sat there for well over 24-hours before being collected. I would NOT recommend until improvements were made!

I will never recommend anyone to come there. They were doing renovations. The elevator did not work properly my mother was elderly, had to walk the stairs several times due to elevator. Also, doing her time of checkout. She was trying to go downstairs to get a cart come back up. The door was already locked for her, unable to retrieve her things went up and down to get a key for it to unlock her room door to remove her things not once but several times. They should never have happened. She had to call her other daughter to call downstairs to have someone to come and unlock the door. Unacceptable. There was a lot of issues about this hotel that I would never recommend anyone to stay there and I will never stay there again.

This place was awful. Stains on the mattress and windows, it was pretty disgusting. There was no staff except for the concierge lady who was helpful, but it was dirty all over the room and hallway. Also, this hotel is in a very unsafe area. We wanted to go out for dinner and had to turn back because we felt unsafe. I would not ever stay here again nor would i recommend it to anyone. Also for anyone wondering, yes, there is still only one working elevator (working is a generous statement)
