Candlewood Suites Texas City by IHG

The lobby and hallway smell like way too much air freshener or something is used, or like they’re trying to cover smoke smell. But Denny at the front desk was wonderful and our room is really nice. It’s close to Galveston and a lot cheaper, HEB and Kroger nearby and a handful of restaurants.

We have stayed at this hotel every December for the past three years to visit family, and i have nothing but great things to say. The rooms were all recently renovated, and the bathrooms and kitchens are so nice. There is always available parking outside, the room's thermostat works great, there is no odor, the front desk staff is friendly and helpful, and the location is great, right on the outside of Texas City, so you can easily go to Galveston or Houston.

Since I have a IHG credit card, I get a certificate on the credit card anniversary date for a maximum # of points to book a IHG-branded hotel. My certificate was about to expire, so I used it at the last minute to try and book a hotel. The nicer hotels required a higher amount of points, so my options were limited. ||There was only one review on TripAdvisor for this hotel in 2025, and it WAS NOT good. I should have heeded that person’s advice. Another reviewer had mentioned that in the past few years, the hotel has been renovated. So which is it? Which review to believe? I decided to take a chance and book for last night. Boy did I regret it after getting to the room. Why?||The SMELL that hit my nostrils as soon as I entered the room. Mold? As the previous reviewer put it: MUSTY smell. And

From the moment we walked in the staff was friendly and helpful. While the amenities at this location are a little light (no pool, daily maid service or complimentary forgotten travel items), the building is well maintained, the rooms are well appointed, the beds are comfortable, and the location is quiet. Overall, a very nice hotel for a weekend getaway.

Convenient location and very friendly staff. The room was a little worn down though, but still functional. Way cheaper price than anything on Galveston for the night we stayed.
