Candlewood Suites Richmond North-Glen Allen by IHG

We checked in on Thursday, 2/19/26 and was supposed to check out on 2/21/26, but our room was so dirty and smelly that we left the next morning, 2/20/26. When we arrived, after driving 6 hours, there was dried up coffee on the counter at check in. When I came downstairs the next morning there was a guy at the front desk chatting it up with one of the cleaning women. I told them the dried up coffee was there the night before. Also, when we checked in the girl at the front desk didn’t list the WiFi info, check out times, etc. she just slide the cards to me with the room number on it because she didn’t verbally say what our room was. It was room 424. With regards to the room…it was dirty and had a weird smell. It smelled like a someone had smoked there and just smelled like it wasn’t clean.

Inexpensive. Lots of restaurants nearby. Liked having a kitchenette, fridge etc. Had a few dishes, just one bowl. Room had a distinct cooked-in/lived-in odor. Bed was very comfortable. Bathroom quality was good. Elevators are consistently grungy with a poor level of finish. I asked for a room not facing the interstate and got one on the end of the top floor that still felt like trucks were driving thru my room. This made it hard to get to sleep. Front desk person was extremely casual about saying she "thought it would be fine" but did not bother to check the location of the room. It could have worse. It could have been much better. Was ok for what I needed and I like the IHG points and price, but I would not choose to stay here again.

I had a fantastic stay at Candlewood Suites. The room was spotless, spacious, and felt more like a mini apartment than a hotel room. The full kitchen was perfect for extended stays, and the lending locker with extra appliances was a thoughtful touch. The staff was incredibly friendly and accommodating, always ready to help with a smile. I also appreciated the on-site laundry facilities and the 24-hour fitness center. Whether you’re staying for a few nights or a few weeks, Candlewood makes you feel right at home. Highly recommended!

The Candlewood Suites in Richmond is probably not the worst option in the area, and I’m still glad I paid a little more compared to even worse places, but unfortunately I can’t rate it highly. The lobby area near the elevator was covered in dead leaves, and other unidentified detritus. The elevator was slow. The dishwasher in my suite hadn’t been unloaded and the floor and desk also had stuff on it. The suite obviously wasn’t turned over properly. The service was pretty good, I was only staying one night so decided not to press any issues, I did need ice and my icemaker wasn’t working, the worker went to an unsold suite and got ice from it. That was awesome service. Overall, next time I need to stay in the area I’ll probably try somewhere a bit higher end.

I had a wonderful stay at Candlewood Suites. The suite was very clean, comfortable, and spacious with a well-equipped kitchenette. The staff was friendly and helpful from check-in to check-out. The location was convenient for my needs, and the overall value was excellent. I’d definitely stay here again!
