Black Elephant Hostel

I did not capture photos during this stay, but the overall experience was excellent. The lobby provided a comfortable and welcoming atmosphere, making it a great place to relax and connect with fellow travelers arriving or departing. Complimentary coffee and tea are available in the mornings until supplies run out, and the quality of the blend was surprisingly good. Each room has its own unique touch, with creative artwork adding to the charm of the space. An outdoor area is available as well, offering a pleasant spot to enjoy warm mornings and afternoons. Bathrooms and showers were abundant and well-maintained, which made the stay very convenient. Been a few years since I stayed in a youth hostel…40 years in fact. This was a wonderful surprise. First, fantastic location in Portland, a block from DukFat and Eventide seafood. Situated near the waterfront, it proved a great base to navigate the tourist sites. And there was abundant on-the-street parking. The rooms were clean, the shared bathrooms modern and clean. The upbeat desk clerks and managers were incredibly friendly and welcoming. A great stay for a single traveler!

One of, if not the nicest hostels I've ever stayed in. Eclectic bohemian describes it perfectly but with a skilled artistic flair. The staff was great and all the rooms were spotless. It's a relatively new renovation so everything was in excellent condition. I've stayed in hostels all over the world and this one met the highest standards and it was fun!

Once in a great while a delightful hostel comes along and makes the users happy. This hotel has a vibe all its own which somehow seems to fit the wavelengths of the weary travelers. The management had thought of just about everything. From the wall and floor treatments that change in theme from one location to another to the incredibly clean hallways and rooms this hostel lifts the mood of anyone that is lucky enough to come across it. Even the kitchen knives are sharp enough to slice onions and things effortlessly. Now, what hostel does that? Certainly not many. I loved my experience at Black Elephant! The staff was extremely friendly and helpful, the rooms were clean and comfortable, and the atmosphere was just so cool and colorful! I had to work remotely one of the days I was visiting and it was such a pleasant experience working from the lobby, enjoying the music, and sipping my complimentary tea. It was also very centrally located in the main area of the city, within walking distance of all the restaurants and bars. I absolutely plan to stay again the next time I’m in Portland!
