A Cautionary Review: Apostle View Cottages - Please Read Before Booking We recently had a stay at Apostle View Cottages and felt it was important to share our experience to help fellow travelers make informed decisions. While the property's online photos are quite appealing, we unfortunately found them to be misleading, and our stay did not meet expectations, especially given the price point. One significant point to be aware of is the discrepancy regarding private decks. The photos suggest a certain level of privacy and outdoor space for all units. However, we discovered that only the Madeline cottage appears to have a private deck. I would NOT recommend the Hermit cottage. It is in need of some major cleaning and upgrading. Very musty/moldy smelling, air conditioner made it worse. The whole place was very humid and moist. They did not supply adequate necessities during our stay and would not answer the phone when we needed more towels and toilet paper. Plan to bring your own cooking utensils as it states all of the dishes need to be cleaned and sanitized before use. Assuming due to the mice. The “private” deck is anything but. Could have used some branch trimming over the deck as you couldn’t stand up without your head in the branches and cobwebs. Would have been nice to have some kind of firepit on the deck. Overall, for what we paid for our 3 night/4 day trip, I feel it was very overpriced for what you are getting

This place has the potential to be really great if the owners invested in it a bit more. The overall property was nice—no trash was seen and there are some nice flowers along the walkway. The firepit and chairs by the lake are a nice touch. Some of the lights illuminating the walkway down to the cottages need to be replaced, but not a huge issue. The bathroom and bedsheets were clean and obviously had just been cleaned/laundered. The kitchen/common area could use a deep clean in the cracks and crevices, and a fresh coat of paint/a professional paint job in all of the rooms would elevate things a little bit but it isn’t a make or break for me. I stayed in the Basswood Suite. It was very comfortable! It was furnished with everything that is needed for staying in a cottage, and it was very clean. It was like staying as a guest in a “friend’s home”! I am so happy that I stayed here, instead of staying in an impersonal standardized hotel room or corporate owned cottages in a lakeside resort town. The location was wonderful. It was very convenient to Bayfield. However, it was very peaceful, as it was located on a side road. I enjoyed the view of the lake from the cottage. I especially enjoyed having my morning cuppa tea and reading a book while sitting on a lawn chair on the bluff overlooking the lake. After the day’s activities, I enjoyed relaxing in the evening with a fire in the firepit.

We rented this cabin for 5 nights in the beginning of August. When we arrived the smell of mold and mildew made me sick right away. We had to find different accommodations and they were nice enough to give us a full refund. I hope they can get this problem fixed. It was a charming place.
