Washington Island Campground

Unfortunately, my experience fell short of expectations. Upon arrival, I noticed the cabin was not adequately cleaned. There was dust everywhere, the floor was extremely dirty and we found lots of cobwebs in the corners. Also the smell it was so disgusting (like a pee). No hot water for the shower. We had a really bad experience! We stayed in the same area and if I’m not mistaken we rent the same cabin 3 years ago and the cabins had so much better quality and conditions than now. That’s very unfortunate because we used to love the place. I hope the host can address the issues for future guests.

We have nothing but positive things to say about our experience! We stayed 3 nights in a basic tent site only with our 20 month old. The site was a good size, we put up a 5 person tent and a screen tent for dining.||||Kayla was very helpful and courteous from the start. I feel the prices are fair for the experience as well. There is an amazing lodge with flush toilets and warm showers and games for a rainy day. They have a large swimming “pond” (manmade) on site. We didnt use this as it was fairly warm and chose to swim at sand dunes park on lake Michigan. There is access to fresh drinking water, wood, and ice! As a mom of 3 boys who recently moved to the Midwest, I was really hoping that being on an island would give them the chance to see the kind of wildlife we didn’t get to experience in a big city. Washington Island Campground did not disappoint. The kids found slugs in the trees and newts in the pond. Nature at its finest! That’s part of what camping in the woods is all about. It turned into such a cool and unexpected learning experience for them. The campground itself is incredibly clean and well cared for. What I really loved was that the owners kept as much of the natural woods intact possible. Camped for 4 nights tent camping so cannot comment on RV setups. Best tent sites are 19 or 20. Some sites are right on top of each other, but their website has a 360 photo of each site to help you choose. Firewood was $7 per bundle, and kind of green, had a hard time burning, and contained 4-5 large pieces so would recommend to have a hatchet or Axe to split up. The swimming pond is a nice bonus to cool off, and is clean. Staff was accommodating, and we were able to extended our stay by an extra night via text message when they were out of the office.

The owners were extremely accommodating for our large group of 12 when we discovered the site we reserved wasn't big enough. The campground was clean, quiet, and perfect for families. Everyone working in the office was incredibly friendly. The skies cleared a couple nights and the view was unbelievable. We could see so many stars and constellations without all the light pollution.
