TownePlace Suites by Marriott Tuscaloosa University Area

Party of 4 adults booked 2 rooms for a 5-night stay over the Thanksgiving holiday visiting family and friends in Tuscaloosa. We got a great rate compared to other hotels because it was also a football (Iron Bowl) weekend and many other hotels were 2X to 3X the nightly rate. I’m also a Bonvoy Gold member and 2 nights from Platinum so was awarded an upgrade for one room to a larger suite. After checking into our room we found that the dirty dishes had been placed in the dishwasher but never washed. Also it looked like spaghetti sauce had been spilled on the side and inside of the dishwasher but had not been cleaned. We requested it be cleaned but after 2 days we cleaned it ourselves. Let me start with the good. I stay in Marriott hotels often for work, and right now I’m here with my family for Thanksgiving. The morning staff at this location has been outstanding. They were friendly, attentive, and professional in every way. The lobby spotless, breakfast was great, and the service made a strong first impression. The rooms, though, were a different story. I’ve stayed in some rougher Hilton rooms before, but this is the first time I’ve ever had an issue like this at a Marriott. There was an old coffee stain under the coffee maker, the AC unit in our suite was covered in thick dust like it hasn’t been cleaned in a long time, and the pull-out couch mattress was missing a protective cover and had a large stain and a torn area. Excellent experience from check in with Ms. Pat - she was very knowledgeable and kind and was able to figure out a booking for me with one double room and one king size room, which seemed to be a challenge online, but she made it so incredibly easy. For breakfast, Miss Mattie was sweet enough to make me something that I could eat since I have food allergies and there wasn’t much available that would not make me sick. All in all a fabulous experience and I will absolutely stay here again when I am fortunate Enough to come back to Tuscaloosa.

Very clean, good amenities and one of the best continental breakfasts I’ve had at a hotel

We stayed in many Marriott hotels but this one was by far the worst! When we entered we notice trash underneath the table and the AC unit, we also noticed that they had no sponge in the kitchen. When we asked for a sponge they said that they were out and handed us a magic eraser. One major problem we came across was BUGS! When i lifted the pillows i saw bugs crawling on the cover. There were also dozens of ladybugs in the bathroom and beds. I do not recommend staying here and would not consider coming back.
