We booked about four months in advance of our trip to San Francisco. The Sheldon is not going to win any awards for cleanliness, the friendly nature of its staff, or it's location. But it was a good deal for five nights, despite being in the Tenderloin district, one of the more seedy sections of the city. The Sheldon also serves as an extended-stay hostel so beware: your bath towels will only be changed once per week. From the minute we arrived, the woman at the front desk was angry and wouldn't let us check-in because we were a few hours early. Once it reached check-in time, she was all friendly. The best thing about the Sheldon was the wireless internet: it never disconnected and was super fast. They have strange rules, like no "visitors" after 8 pm and when we tried to bring my friend's

Not bad at all. It was cheap and the people are very nice. Rooms are small but we just were here to store our stuff and sleep. Would stay again.

The location is good, close to cable car and BART station. The room was clean but never has been cleaned during our stay (which was nowhere stated but I didnt expect that for the price anyway). Fresh towels were provided every day. I would book again when on low budget BUT:||Be aware that they use a really suspicios credit card processor for the charge. We received an email from booking.com 4 days (!) before arrival that my credit card was declined and that we should contact the hotel. So we did via email. No response. On check-in, the had no idea about that. So they faxed my card information somewhere and gave me the key to the room. Next morning I had a message on the door that my card was declined, so I called my bank. They told me that the credit card processor is on a blacklist and th

The hotel is centrally located, very close to Union Square, with easy access to public transport. Staff are friendly and helpful. I stayed here twice over a 2-week period first on a twin then a single room. Both are good value, but the single room even more so.||||I'm a light sleeper so requested for quiet rooms. Still some noise during the night, but nothing unmanageable. Bring ear plugs for uninterrupted sleep.||||Rooms have an ensuite bathroom. You also have a small fridge, lockable cabinet, and a place to hang clothes.||||Make sure you have your own hairdryer, power adapter, and iron. They don't supply these. They also don't have a dedicated place to store your luggage, so you can't leave this overnight. You may leave your luggage and retrieve them the same day, but at your own risk--t

We stayed a week at the Sheldon and have zero complaints. Don't expect luxury. We found the Sheldon provided us with all we needed but no frills. The staff is professional and helpful. The rooms are small. No AC. No daily housekeeping. But you can't beat the location and price. Also safe and clean. I would highly recommend.
