ITH San Francisco Pacific Tradewinds Backpacker Hostel

Spent my first two weeks in SF here – had an amazing stay!!! On the basics, the accommodations were very clean, safe, and well maintained. Location-wise, you're right next to great restaurants and bars in both Chinatown and North Beach (kind of like SF's Little Italy) – was also very easy to walk to work in the Financial District, and there's convenient bus routes to elsewhere in the city. Biggest differentiator for me was the community and authentic hostel experience – ended up exploring SF with folks who were also staying at ITH and regularly had dinner together. The manager and staff are incredibly thoughtful and will go out of their way to help you – they also put on super fun daily / weekly events, which include free meals! Booked this hostel for one night and ended up staying longer I liked it so much. I love the decor, the environs and people here. It has such a nice crowd of travellers and Assad is an absolute legend of a man. He was so helpful and kind, helping me with my bags up the 3/4 flights of stairs, helping me with padlocks and we had such good chats about parts of the world we mutually love. The hostel is in an excellent location only a 5/10 minute walk from Montgomery Station and is so close to the tram stops. Chinatown is safe and a place I wandered around solo late at night with no fears. Lots of bars and food nearby. The bed and pillows were so comfortable and I appreciated the privacy curtain. Stayed here for a week, a good travellers hostel. They organise social events every other evening which are fun. Location: It is at the boundary of Financial District and Chinatown so safe area and very walkable from Ferry Building. I had no issue coming back after sunset. Walkable distance from bus stops as well. Tip: Be prepared for the stairs, there is no lift. However, manager there was kind to help me haul luggage up the stairs.

Overall, the experience was very nice, and the hotel offers great opportunities to meet new people in a friendly atmosphere. However, I noticed that among the displayed world flags, the flag of China was missing, while the ************** was present. This was somewhat disappointing, as it seemed to carry a political bias, which could feel unwelcoming or not fully inclusive to guests from certain countries.

Awesome location - a very short walk to BART/Muni(subway). Good, safe location right between Chinatown and FiDi (both walkable). Kind and genuine check-in bro. Amazing facilities and they’re really trying with small things - like taco/pizza nights, free tea, and even peanut butter & jelly. Highly recommend. I hope they find the funds and energy to update some of the rooms, particularly carpets.
