Residence Inn by Marriott Coralville

I broke one of my cardinal rules and I settled for a room because it was ready. I had an advanced reservation and requested a top floor room but when I arrived at 4:50 pm both the person in front and I were informed that no rooms were currently ready and we would need to wait at least 10 minutes. The room I was assigned was a first floor room 130 and I should have walked back and waited for another room. The room was HC accessible which then featured special accommodations that became more of a disappointment to my stay. The couch was a low profile and very uncomfortable and the shower was designed curb less allowing most of the water to seek areas outside the curtain. We stayed here in August and were extremely disappointed. I primarily stay at Marriott properties as a Bonvoy Platinum member because they are typically clean, safe, and well-managed. Unfortunately, this Hawkeye Hotels–managed property does not meet Marriott standards in any way. There were multiple serious issues during our stay. We found centipedes/millipedes in the room—one on the bathroom floor, one in the bathtub, and even one in the light fixture. Needless to say, this made it very difficult to sleep. The tile floor was also sticky and filthy to the point where shoes were necessary just to walk around the room, which is completely unacceptable. Breakfast was another major problem. Shockingly Poor Experience — Roaches, No Refund, and Dismissive Service As a Marriott Bonvoy Gold Elite member, I’ve stayed at countless Marriott properties and have never experienced anything like this. During my recent stay at the Residence Inn in Coralville, Iowa, our room had roaches. When I reported it, the staff casually mentioned that they “spray for roaches,” which tells me this is an ongoing problem, not an isolated incident. Since the hotel was sold out, relocation wasn’t even an option. I asked for my Bonvoy points to be refunded, and was told no, despite the fact that it is a room with a pest infestation. I left, as I was not going to remain in a room with roaches. This level of disregard for guest comfort, cleanliness, and loyalty is absolutely unacceptable for a Marriott

We had a terrible experience with hotel management. We traveled to Iowa City to see family at Thanksgiving. While there, a winter storm warning was issued and the Weather Service issued a travel advisory due to the up to 12" of snow that was expected. Because of the travel advisory, we checked out early and asked for a refund on the last night we had booked. Management said no. I wold have thought in weather emergencies they would have been somewhat flexible.
