Pod Room Powell St Union Square

Things I like: Really nice location with great convenience. So close to Union Square and all kinds of transportation(cable car, metro, buses and BART) that I found no difficulties reaching all the spots I wanted to visit in downtown San Francisco. The pod inside is quite comfy and convenient, with a few USB plugs and power outlets enabling me to easily use my electronic devices before sleep and charge them right next to me without leaving my bed to the power outlet. Amazingly quiet at nights; it was expected to be a bit noisy since it's located at the city centre, but to my surprise it was really quiet during my stay, without any noises from outside. The reason why capsule hotels work in Japan is because some of the personal space you give up is used to provide solid shared amenities. Decent showers and bathrooms are a given. Have seen jacuzzis a couple of times. TV rooms. Etc. My floor with 20+ capsules had one tiny bathroom with an airplane sized sink. One small shower as well. Lockers so small you can't really fit anything in them. The fact these are worse amenities than what you would get at a hostel can perhaps be forgiven as they don't exactly hype them up - but still, this was painful. What made the stay *really* annoying is that the pods are advertised as being over seven feet long. I'm 6'6" and didn't fit even when I tried sleeping diagonally - my feet were pressed against one corner and my head against the opposite one. Add

I had heard very little about these pod room accommodations as it was mostly an Asian experience, but I had the opportunity to give it a try on my San Francisco visit and took the chance.||||First of all, I want to say thanks so much for the assistance of Hiro, Yusuke and the staff at the Pod room for all of the wonderful assistance and patience to my many questions. The Powell Street Cable Car stops right in front of the Pod Room. The front desk reception check-in is actually with the Herbert Hotel as the Pod room is a sub-leased room of the hotel. The capsule hotel is just very nice for the one with privacy but still with hostel feel||I could say the hotel is good but a little bit quite, nice location, the staffs are very friendly and always helpful. It value for money, because you can't find any hostel nearby with around this price.||The capsule makes you feel so comfortable, as it is so clean also. There is shared bathroom & not crowded, which is good.||I like the hotel location, near to the train station of Powel street & cable car, so easi for you to go somewhere.

Pods are super comfortable and spacious. Location is right in the centre of San Francisco and it is easy to get around. What I didn’t like is that kitchen is dirty and there are no plates, bowls, glasses etc. You must come with your own stuff if you are to have/prepare smtg to eat there Also there is only 1 shower and 1 toilet for 5 pod rooms which means 20 people on 1shower/toilet
