Luz Hotel

Staff are really pleasant and kind, toilets are kept clean and bed was comfortable. However, the location whilst being close to tourist attractions and transport is surrounded by homeless people, they can’t even leave the front gate open. This is not a safe hotel for solo travellers. The neighbours are also very noisy and woke us up at 3am playing loud music. The negatives out way the positives and we would not recommend to others.

Upon arrival, Luz Hotel turned out to be far below even the minimum standards of hygiene and habitability. The entire hotel and our room had a strong, unpleasant odor. The floors were sticky and dirty, the nightstands were stained, flies were buzzing around, and the bed felt unclean, with no fresh linens, the sheets that were there even had brown streaks on them. The door to our room wouldn’t lock properly. To make matters worse, the hotel owner was walking barefoot through the property, which made us question the hygiene even more. It felt completely unsafe and unsanitary, putting our health and safety at risk.||We reported all this immediately to the owner, but he claimed there was nothing he could do and told us we had to resolve it with Booking.com since we booked through them. Let me start by saying that the staff was nice but the hotel itself was bad and the room could've been better. The place needs a serious update , The location is unsafe and I heard gunshots outside our rooms . There is no breakfast served but there is a nice Deli across the street. The free pen the manager gave us when we checked out was higher quality than the hotel .

Update 12/12/24. I used to love this place, but it's become so rundown it's disgusting. Terrible mice and roach infestation and one of the staff lit the shower/toilet area on fire last night. I'm OK with roaches and move as long as it's being handle, which it's not, but I'm not OK with burning to death. I think it's time for the city to be involved. OK, this place has gone through quite a transition from the covid 19 pandemic. I guess at some point the city housed the homeless here. Much of the furniture, walls and other furnishings were broken or destroyed during that time. Now things are beginning to normalize as the owner has done quite a few repairs and upgrades. Owners and managers are very accommodating, they were able to check us in when our flight was delayed. Staffs are friendly and gave us tips during our stay. Rooms was a bit small than expected but like the personal sink and bed is comfortable. Shared bathrooms are always clean.
