La Quinta Inn by Wyndham Richmond South

This particular property is unlike any La Quinta I have visited — and not in a good way. From the moment I entered the lobby and throughout my stay, the entire property had a pervasive, unpleasant odor that was impossible to ignore. The mattress in my Deluxe King room was the lowest quality I have slept on in years — thin, with wire springs I could feel while lying down, uneven, and without a box spring. In the bathroom, the Romex wiring above the sink was fully exposed, and the wall was not properly closed around the wire where it enters. These are not minor cosmetic issues; the electrical situation in particular raises serious safety concerns. I could go on, but I think you get the idea. Room was as expected, clean. Staff friendly, but after requesting a first floor room pre check in, I was given a second floor?!.! Desk agent switched it but my question is, why ask? If you're not going to give it? We had some issues with toilet filling/not working. Front desk came down and fixed, but it happened again in morning. Staff needs to check #121 toilet! Breakfast was as expected at LaQuinta. Coffee better than many. TV coverage decent. Very close to 95. Basically a good stay( just check on the toilet)

Positive: The staff and the room and location are perfect for my, and my companion dogs, needs. there is even a quiet historical park only a block away. Negative: not a thing.

Large, clean room that smells good and looks recently updated. Our pet stayed free. Very reasonable rates and free breakfast. Overall a great value. We're just passing through after a long day on the road so the "location" doesn't matter that much except for being right off the highway. There appears to be plenty of fast food restaurants, etc. nearby.

While waiting to check-in, there were guests complaining about the ac/heat in their room ...my room was no exception, the air barely ran and when it did, it sounded like a truck engine. The room was very stuffy and rundown, the gym equipment is likewise rundown/broken. The keycard device on the door shutdown, staff had to change the batteries. The staff, are great, incredibly pleasant and helpful, and the issued with the building I presume are out of their control, it really is just in need of overall general maintenance.
