The Commonwealth

We had a wonderful stay at The Commonwealth while celebrating our 1-year anniversary, and the staff truly made the experience feel special. Eric, our valet, was absolutely the best! So kind, genuine, and welcoming every single time we interacted with him. He went above and beyond and genuinely set the tone for our stay. We also had a great experience at the hotel bar thanks to Shane, the bartender. He was friendly, attentive, and made the space feel relaxed and enjoyable…exactly what you want when celebrating a milestone. Exceptional service all around. We felt well taken care of and would happily stay here again.

This is a very centrally located, historic hotel. You can see its age in the common areas, but the rooms are well furnished, clean, comfortable and spacious. ||However, what really makes the experience is the truly friendly and accommodating staff. The reception is endlessly hospitable, the kitchen cooks for you like you’re at home — and Eric at the door has a smile that will make you melt. He was so attentive and helpful every time I walked by. He knew what I needed before I knew it myself. Thank you to the whole team!

Positive: Spacious quiet room for a downtown hotel. Helpful valet parking. Easy walking to courts, legislature and many local restaurants. Negative: Was a bit pricey.

Although out of our usual price range, for a special weekend it was well worth it. Our family had 4 rooms, and all of us had nothing but great things to say about everyone that worked there. From Eric, the world's greatest valet who remembered our car 2 days after check-in even though we didn't use it the entire weekend to Shane, the check-in clerk/ bartender/ room service delivery person, the entire staff was friendly and super helpful. The rooms were spacious and tastefully decorated. A must see if you're going to Richmond for a special occasion.

In Richmond to attend a major public event, I chose to stay at the Commonwealth Hotel because of its proximity to the Virginia State Capitol. I would go back because of the comfortable, large, quiet suites, the great downtown location, and especially the kindness and warmth of the staff. Staff like Summer in the restaurant and Eric at the main door were exceptionally welcoming, helpful, and thoughtful. It felt like a home away from home.
