Hotel Garrett

Stayed for 10 days. We arrived before check in and stayed in the city long after check out hours, the front desk team was very kind on keeping our luggage safe. The location is great, a block away from MUNI and BART. There are certainly some homeless around the neighborhood, however there is security 24/7 around the property making you feel safe. Shout out to the house keeping staff. The room was kept clean everyday. The continental breakfast was a pleasant surprise ase there were several different breads and eggs. Fruit was always fresh. I can say we truly enjoyed San Francisco while staying at Garrett!

Positive: I liked that the hotel was clean and the staff was friendly. Negative: I didn't like that the hotel didn't have a fridge inside the room and the lights were really dim. The Wifi signal wasn't good and they have a $200 deposit that was not told to me before or noted anywhere on the website.

Upon arriving at the hotel about 11.30 pm for check-in I was told that the hotel was overbooked and they had to rebook me to Soma House a hotel across the street. This was unbelievable as I had been charged in full several days before the check-in date. So it had been fully prepaid in advance.So I walked with my luggage across the street to Soma House. There, though I was told a room had been prepared for me, it took quite a while to check-in. And when they asked for my credit card $200 guarantee, something went wrong. After I completed the transaction on the machine, I was notified by text from my credit card that $200 transaction had been made for Soma House, but the hotel night manager (I think he was) said that nothing came through in their system, no record!! I needed to cancel my reservation, and I was disappointed with how the situation was handled by the hotel staff. (Edward) The communication I received was unhelpful and at times unprofessional, and I felt that the responses focused more on keeping my payment than on offering any flexibility or understanding. Given that this was not a fully booked weekend and the hotel clearly benefited from Super Bowl pricing, I was surprised by how rigid and unfriendly the staff were in enforcing policy without offering any accommodation. I expected at least basic courtesy and clear explanations — neither of which I received. Overall, my interaction with the staff left me with the impression that customer service was not a priority. I stayed at this location this past weekend with no problems. The hotel staff is now refusing to refund my $200 deposit that they took from me. Claiming that there was deep cleaning necessary to the room due to smoke. I did not smoke in the room at all. This is a fabricated story by the housekeeping team. At no point in time was there any smoke in my room, the room itself became overheated too often, and I was barely in the room during my stay in San Francisco. I contacted the hotel staff, and they are stating that a charge was applied to my card instead of the deposit being returned due to deep cleaning from smoke.
