Traveled here with 2 sixteen year olds and had a wonderful time. The hotel is super fun & funky, in a great location. Right at the entrance to Chinatown and close to BART and all public transit. Tons of great food & coffee options all around us. Our room was clean and spacious and the king-size bed was very comfortable. It was very quiet and we all slept really well. The front desk people were there in the mornings as we were heading out for the day and very pleasant. The keyless entry worked well and we had no issues getting in and out of the building and our room. It felt quite safe. We would recommend Hotel Des Arts to any one looking for a fun, easy no frills place to stay in SF.

Traveling as a couple. This was an amazing find, especially for the price. There was daily housekeeping, it was clean, and the staff that I did interact with was very nice. They also fulfilled my requests quickly! I personally like the fact that it's not always staffed and that you download the key on your phone. No annoying check in process! We were on the first floor by the stairs and never heard any of the noise from the bar. We also didn't experience much noise from the hallway or above us. It's right next to Chinatown and sooo walkable to things. Felt more safe than other areas at night as well. The only downside is no AC so leaving the windows open is worrisome and noisy, but you are in a city of course. The stairs are also super small and narrow, but there is an elevator. Would high

Overtly tacky with their rooms, though I say "rooms" generously, because it's honestly more of a compact cell than an actual room. The one that we booked had so much going on interior wise that it was giving me literal headaches just trying to walk around, and the small space did not help. We chose this location due to the convenience of being nearby a convention, but we could not relax at all while we were here. The bathrooms are not entirely clean, and apparently some of our neighbors had bugs in their rooms. Our window was entirely obscured and not cleaned or maintained, and we could not see out of them (this does not help with the boxed in situation). Not a place to stay at whatsoever unless you want to experience some psychotic acid trip. It's funny hearing myself say this, but this h

Funky hotel close to everything in the financial district. Walking distance from Chinatown (a block away), the SFMOMA And so much more. It’s an old building and not fancy but they’ve done it really well and honestly rocked it. Great value for the price. Your key will be on app , there’s a crazy staircase (it’s TALL), and what feels like a secret passage to a bar. So yeah. It’s rad. They’ve done it up really well. On the same block is the Irish Bank, Harlan Records Bar, and the Posh Bagel. You kinda don’t need anything else.

The art in my room was offensive, a scantily clad cartoon woman in a bikini top. Also the walls are paper thin. The bed is directly next to the room door which makes it feel very exposed. It is a cheap hotel with bad amenities (no coffee in the room, scratchy sheets, bathroom that needs renovation.) There was also loud music coming from maybe a nearby bar. Kenneth at the front desk was extremely helpful in finding my a new room. He gets 5 stars, the hotel remains a 3. There are other, better options in the neighborhood for the same price point.
