Hotel 964

San Francisco is very expensive. I had been looking for a reasonable hotel for just a one day over night stay before a cruise. The prices were very high and sometimes did not have a private bath in your room, but down the hall and sharing with other people. Not my idea of convenient. So I kept looking at lower prices and found this hotel in area just outside of Union Square. It had a bathroom in the room and was decorated very nicely. There was a large flat screen tv and a comfortable bed. The room however, was the smallest room I have ever seen! It was maybe 150 square feet. My husband and I had to take turns moving around to get dressed and moving our luggage. But all in all, the service was friendly and helpful. I unfortunately did not enjoy my stay and only made it one night of the three I booked. It is very loud. You can hear street noise, neighbors talking/ watching tv/ opening doors / flushing. As much as I love hard floors, carpet is much needed to dampen the noise. There is also no heat and the blankets provided are thin. I was cold. The place also has an odd odor. I had a lot of difficulty sleeping and ultimately decided to eat the cost and book a second hotel, even though this one was not refundable. Also parking is only 12 hours, so that means when it’s up you gotta wake up and start it over even if it’s 5am ... the only upsides are this place is cheap, about as cheap as you can get in San Fran with your own bathroom. We spent 4 nights at this Hotel. The room was small but it was really clean. The staff was friendly and did everything we asked, like extra pillows or blankets. There are a lot of homeless in the area where the hotel is but we never felt in danger at all (they are mostly at nights). It's really close to Union Sq (about 10 min walk). If you are going to spend most of the day in the city and you just need a place to have a shower and sleep, it's the perfect option.

I really enjoyed my stay here!! Yes, the rooms are small, but if you need but a place to rest and leave your luggage, it's worth the price for the area! Nice clean place. The receptionist was kind enough to let me in past midnight after a delayed flight and check in/check out was a breeze.

I chose this hotel because it was cheap (did not expect to be for anything other than sleeping in the hotel) and close to the Moscone Center where I attended a conference. ||Location: pretty good, close to Market St. where are a lot of shops, hotels, bars, and restaurants. Howard St. is two blocks south of Market St.--the hotel is on the border of the not-so-nice part of Howard St. It's not dangerous, but a few homeless people might be hanging around (which you see in a lot of places in SF). ||The room was small, clean and without a view (which I did not care). The staff (actually, the staff is one guy at the front desk and a cleaning lady) is friendly. Overall--nothing to complain if you do not expect too much.
