Homewood Suites by Hilton Richmond-Downtown

Positive: The suite space and it's amenities. Negative: Yes. Other guests were smoking pot in the rooms, despite the sign stating it was a NO smoking floor. As a severe asthmatic patient this was not good. They were short of staff!

During my recent business trip on Feb. 10th and 11th, I encountered a rather unsettling issue that significantly impacted the quality of my stay. Upon arriving after a long flight, I brought some food into my initial room, and shortly afterward, I discovered an infestation of cockroaches. While I am grateful that the hotel staff recognized the problem and relocated me, it was not until the next day to a different room, the initial shock and fear of the insects caused considerable disruption to my sleep and overall well-being. Although I must commend the hotel for the generally well-appointed accommodations and the quality of the breakfast service, I must strongly urge the management to address this serious insect problem with utmost urgency and thoroughness. Pros: LOVED all that I got in this hotel - bedroom, living room, almost full kitchen. I was there for a conference and appreciated being able to bring in food from grocery stores for some of my meals to eat in and plenty of space to work on my computer and chill. Rooms were nicely appointed and bedroom had two large windows which brought in a lot of light. Location was great - easy walking distance to convention center and also the river/Brown Island. Parking was cheaper than some hotels in the area and I got a state discount on it.|Cons: I never totally figured out the elevators and felt "trapped" in the parking garage a few times. Honestly, the hotel has potential, but the customer service provided by the staff on the second floor, where the restaurant is located, is very poor. Additionally, if you are planning to rest, forget about it. Starting at 7 a.m., you can hear doors slamming, chairs being dragged, and loud noises from the housekeeping staff in the nearby rooms. Definitely, the hotel did not meet my expectations. The photos do not accurately represent the place, and the restaurant/bar on the top floor remains closed. Overall, the place is very average — below expectations.

I travel frequently for work and almost exclusively stay with Hilton properties, most often Homewood Suites. Unfortunately, my recent stay was by far the worst hotel experience I have had anywhere in the country. While the parking garage is extremely poorly designed and only suitable for compact vehicles, that is not even my primary concern. My room was filthy upon arrival. There were dirty dishes left in both the sink and dishwasher, additional dishes with crusted food still in the drawers, loose change on the floor indicating the room had not been vacuumed, and a broken metal piece left on the shower floor.
