Holiday Inn Johnstown-Downtown by IHG

I was pleasantly surprised by this hotel. The downtown area is a bit run down but this hotel was actually pretty nice and well maintained. Our room was in very good condition and clean. We were able to get a good night of sleep although our beds were fulls and not queens so it was a little cramped. The rooms were a nice size and the adjacent parking garage was convenient. We had breakfast at the restaurant and the quality was good and pricing was very reasonable. We were frustrated that it was not communicated that the pool was closed before we arrived, it would have made our stay even better.

After working out in the elements, a 4 hour drive, all I wanted to do was get checked in and get a hot shower. We'll there was NO HOT WATER. Called front desk, they sent maintenance up and they proceeded to tare apart the shower facet and make adjustments. Still no hot water and was told there won't be any hot water as the system temp apparently is set no higher then 120 degrees. No complimentary coffee unless it's within their set hours for coffee. Hallways where not clean nor elevators or floors. Room was fair. Needless to say, I WILL NOT RETURN!

I spent one night at the Holiday Inn for a business meeting. Here are my honest observations:|1. The staff was unfailingly polite from beginning to end. They accommodated my request for an early check-in.|2. The lobby is clean and attractive.|3. The gym is pitiful. It has a decent rack of weights, but two of the three machines were broken. A Peleton would be a huge upgrade. The pool did look nice.|4. My room was fine if a bit drab. The brown carpet, brown curtains, and brown light fixtures made it dark and dreary. The bed was comfortable, the in-room coffee was drinkable, the TV and AC worked, and the bathroom had ample hot water. The room was clean. |5. I had breakfast in the restaurant. Location is great when attending the 1st summit arena, the hotel is definitely dated but the rooms were clean and the bed was comfortable. Unfortunately the pool and workout rooms were closed for renovations.

Hotel falsely claimed renovations to get out of providing gaurenteed availability under IHG's Diamond Elite rewards level. If they treat their customers who stay with them 70 nights a year like this, how do you think they'll treat you? Find somewhere else to stay.
