Holiday Inn Express Wilkes Barre East by IHG

"Quiet hours" are BS. My fiancée and I are in a distance relationship and we don't get to have nice weekends due to mitigating circumstances. We wanted to have a peaceful Valentine's Day together, however there was a large group of guests (had to have been at least three different families in one room, who were slamming doors, yelling, and kids were screaming and crying as well. We called the front desk around 10:15 (quiet hours are 10pm-7am and posted right at the elevator doors) to which we were told that it wouldn't be an issue until after 11:30. Not even 5 minutes after we had called, another guest in a nearby room went and knocked on the door of the disruptive guests who, as soon as the guest left after being apologized to, immediately went back to doing exactly what they were doing a

This hotel was a nice place to stay and we felt very welcomed. Kai was very friendly, helpful and welcoming and gave a great first impression. The shower had super water pressure, the bed and pillows were very comfortable and everything was clean. Our only issue was the breakfast service on Friday morning around 8:30. Almost everything was empty and nobody around to refill things. When the woman finally arrived she seemed very irritated and not very friendly.

I am an IHG platinum member so I am a frequent customer to this brand. This place has gone down hill since the last time I stayed here and it is not quite up to HIE standards. The first room I was put into, the PTAC unit was so loud, you could here it in the corridor with the door closed. I requested a move and she gave me another room. I checked that out and it was better, but it was not the room type I requested but it worked. Even this room the PTAC was loud and making some weird noises. The ironic thing is the ones in the breakfast room were really quiet and much newer than the ones in the rooms. I think this place needs to replace them all. The room was OK, a little worn, but not horrible. The breakfast had the typical variety, but was below average of what I have experienced

So on day 1 of our 4 day stay was beautiful at 1st despite the mixed reviews we read b4 booking our stay. The view from the entrance is a lovely look at Pennsylvania scenic mountains and valleys. That being said.. At 1st we were greeted with a nice receptionist and easy reservation verification process. then we went to the pool which did not have a working jacuzzi and from the reviews it hasent been working for atleast 3 months which is the whole summer.. That was ok sofar.. then after my daughter was swimming in their pool I noticed that the pool was cloudy meaning the filters weren't filtering so it seemed like a cesspool of human body fluids from other people who stayed b4 from the time the filter stopped working and that we have no idea when that was. Positive: The breakfast, the room was so so clean, the super friendly and accommodating staff.. This hotel exceeded my expectations and made my stay amazing! Negative: Nope!
