Customer Reviews
Excellent location. We came on a ski trip and ended up extending our stay because we enjoyed the area and our accommodations so much. The beds were comfy with plush comforters, keurig in room with pods, and liquid creamer which my husband appreciated instead of the powder most places give you. Our room was extremely clean. The young man who checked us in was very friendly and recommended some great vista points on the parkway. Will definitely be back and look forward to using the charming rocking chairs when it's warmer!
We have stayed at Hillwinds Inn several times in the past and were pleased. However, on this trip we discovered they no longer offer the services that made them stand out. They no longer offer a continental breakfast and afternoon snacks in their lovely reception area. Now that area sits empty. Landscaping also no longer stacks up against their competition. Also, they had an old rusted out truck parked in front of our room which made it challenging entering and exiting our parking spot which obviously belonged to management. We checked in on a Thursday and asked if they also had a vacancy for Friday night. They did, but double the rate (literally, from $152 to $299) which was my bad for not checking out the property before booking the extra night. To be fair, the room was clean, and
The rooms were cozy, clean, and quiet. We even had a room closer to the street and it was still quiet. Beds are comfy. Parking is a tiny close for larger vehicles, but being able to park right in front of your door is fabulous! This Inn is within walking distance of all the main street shops! I truly enjoyed our stay and will for sure stay again!
First, this place has three things going for it: LOCATION, LOCATION, LOCATION. It is walking distance to most of the in town Blowing Rock attractions and you can back your car right up to your room which is convenient. But, the website photos are a bit deceptive. It’s not quite so quaint and cozy in person. It’s actually a bit of a run down motel at deluxe inn prices. Our room featured peeling paint, spiders, and a sticky layer of dust on some surfaces. At half the price, I would have found it quite practical and adequate. It just doesn’t have the cozy mountain inn feeling and hospitality focused staff you’d expect for $269/night.
Cockroach found crawling on the walls and they wouldn't move me to the empty rooms all around me. It was after 8pm so I had to call the emergency number they left up. They wouldn't come look at it as they said it was a stink bug. I said I had photos if they wanted me to send them (it was not a stinkbug). The man on the line said he wasn't interested in seeing any photos. I had to sleep in a cockroach room. I would look at the other inns in this town.
