Hawthorn Extended Stay by Wyndham Decatur

As someone who did commercial/industrial level cleaning (5 yrs @ international airport) I am sufficiently grossed out. And the reality is; EVERY hotel in the area is like this. Truly. Smeared, dirty glass. Filthy remote control, a microwave not properly secured. Dirty fridge, rust and mold in kitchen, bathroom, and around windows. Curtains torn, THICK dust in places while claiming to be 'pet friendly' Dead bugs all along the walls and under curtains. The ac unit needs service and cleaning. The carpets had thick clumps of pet hair from previous guests still in the corners. Smoke detector basically falling off the wall. When they tried to change our room, it wasn't any better. Booked through Expedia and received confirmation that the hotel would be reserved. When we arrived, the receptionist told us there was a $200 deposit to stay in addition to what we’d already paid online. We let them know we didn’t want to pay the additional fee, so they told us to contact Expedia to get a refund. When the hotel room was booked, there was no indication if the deposit or that there would be additional fees or possibly a resort fee/deposit. We contacted Expedia and were told the hotel refused to refund us and that they charged us for the hotel room. I have 1 star because I was unable to give a zero. I never saw the room, so I can’t give a rating. The area of the hotel is really nice, so I have 5 stars. I feel as though this is a scam the hotel runs using Expedia so BEWARE!

If you’re looking for a dirty, outdated, smelly hotel to kick your feet back for the night, here’s your place. After living the mattress up, I found clumps of hair, food crumbs, and not to mention the cigarette burn hole in the comforter. The light switch in the room was also broken and the cover was off. Do yourself a favor and avoid this hotel at all costs. They also charge you a $200 “deposit” at check-in which is then “refunded” to you at the end of your stay… allegedly.

Positive: Nothing Negative: The fact that the owner charged our card $200 for incidentals just in case. The money was out of my account for 4 days before it was returned.

There is a $200 deposit on a $100 room. The beds are comfy. Rooms need updating looks like a room from the late 90s. I requested a handicap accessible room, the room was NOT wheelchair accessible! After checking in at 2am and checking out at 10am and being assured our deposit would be returned we waited 21 days for our refund just to call be be told someone smoked in the room (we do not smoke) and our deposit would not be returned. We had called two times before this to inquire about the deposit since we were told 48 hours then 7-10 days and both times we called we were told the deposit had already been refunded on their side. Now it’s been 21 days and they are changing the story. Customer service was rude every time! Another guest said he found bugs in his room. DO NOT STAY HERE or at lea
