Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Smithfield Selma/I-95

I returned to the Fairfield Inn to Smithfield and am pleased that it has improved. My room was not ready at check-in as housekeeping was still working. But after sitting in the lobby for about 30 minutes, I was given an upgraded room. I'm not sure if this was because of my Titanium status or because of the wait. The prices are reasonable here. The parking lot was a good size, and the location was close to the outlets but not too far away from downtown either. It is also near I-95 and Route 301. I was provided a Welcome Bag with a bottle of water and some Chex Mix. My room was on the third floor, near the elevators. How this hotel has this rating baffles me it must be friends writing reviews because no sane person would score this higher then a 3 Save your money and sleep at a motel 6 they will treat you better and the beds will be better than the broken spring boxes they have at this hotel. They refuse to clean your room except every third day even if you ask and if you want fresh sheets or towels you will be directed to bring the dirty ones to the lobby to exchange for clean ones. And the day they are supposed to clean they take the trash and that is it. Even the staff admit it’s a dumpster fire. I practically live in Marriott for work over 250 nights a year in a hotel and this is a top 5 for dumps I have staid in. I am leaving a 5 start review because of Anthony! I am a longtime Marriott member, silver elite and this is one of the best receptionist that I have ever come across in my time traveling. He is so friendly and really cares about his guests. I have probably stayed in over 50 Marriotts and I could tell you that this is the best front desk receptionist that I have met in my entire life. This guy should run the entire hotel. In my opinion, he is phenomenal. I don’t really have anything to say about the room or anything else. Only that Anthony is amazing and that’s it.

Rented a suite. Nothing special. No extra room, no walk in shower, did not seem like a suite, just an extra TV. Now the reason for the rating. The bed. The bed was very uncomfortable with a lump on the side of the bed closest to the window. I invite the manager/ owner to lay down on it for a second. It was not what I was wanting after a really long day of driving. To me, not up to Marriott standards and I will be thinking twice before opening that app again. Not worth the price paid for the room.

The location and staff were great. The house keeping staff are either lacking in good employees or good equipment. The floor had not been well vacuumed and there were Cheerios under the table. There was hair on the shower walls. Something had dripped down the side of the tv stand and there were handprints on the couch and chair in the “living space”. I had brought my own Clorox wipes because we are traveling with children and tend to make our own messes but I had to use them to clean the room before we stayed in it. I was able to wipe off whatever had dripped down the tv stand as well as the handprints on the furniture. Our down comforter was stained but I am hopeful that it was washed before we used it. We also had to go down and ask for towels because there were none in our room and only
