Fairfield by Marriott Inn & Suites Des Moines West

I would strongly caution anyone considering staying at this hotel. We were given room 302 and immediately noticed visible water damage, heavy dust and dirt buildup, mold growth, and a strong musty odor. I asked the front desk to move us, but the second room they provided was actually worse—it reeked of cigarette smoke. We ended up staying in the original room because at least it didn’t smell like smoke. If it were not for my daughters soccer team staying here I would have walked out. The entire property felt damp and unclean. There were multiple dehumidifiers running in the hallways, which tells me the hotel is masking a much bigger problem rather than fixing it. Great for the price. The staff is very nice. They have a good breakfast. It's in a nice location and is very quiet. Will definitely stay there again should I be in the area

Positive: Pillows were good. Negative: Had like warm water so taking a shower wasn?t the best! We let it run a lon time too, but never got hot.?hardly luke warm. When we pay over $--- for a room, we expect to at least have hot water!

Ashley did an excellent job checking us in and accommodating our needs so that we could have the most comfortable start before our flight! She even brought in a cot for our daughter so efficiently that she was barely in the room and it was already set up! Breakfast of eggs, sausage, oatmeal and so much more was hot and ready by 6am! We would definitely stay again!

Dirty and outdated. Our room(s)was very dirty and run down. The screen was ripped. There were crumbs all over the desk/table. I check for bed bugs at every hotel I go to. When I checked between the mattresses I found a dirty yellow towel. I asked to switch rooms and the second room was not much better. There was no dirty rag but it was still very dirty. We didn’t even take showers because the tub was so gross.
