Customer Reviews
Having read some reviews I didn’t have high expectations for El Capitan, but it was the cheapest place around, so I went for it.|In fact, the staff on the front desk were really helpful, and the location in the Mission is perfect if you want the real SF experience (I can see how it might be a bit rough for some). The room was fine and served our needs. The bathrooms did get a bit dirty, but not outrageously so. Oh, and the showers are just baths with shower heads attached. But honestly that wasn’t a problem for me. The hotel itself seems to have long term tenants as well as temporary guests so it has an unusual vibe...but we were happy with our stay there, especially at the price!
You get what you pay for with this "hotel." It's more like a hostel/hotel than a traditional hotel. It's a cheap hotel in a working class neighborhood... don't expect luxury and you'll be ok. The nice thing about San Francisco is how walkable it is. You'll be close to a lot of other cool parts of town. The bathrooms are shared but single-stall so you're not actually interacting with anyone else while you're in there. This made me feel safer during COVID times. Rooms have a sink at least. Bed is not terribly comfortable, but hey, I knew what I was getting myself into. My biggest complaint is the bathroom closest to my room NEVER had toilet paper during my 3-night stay, which made me think it was not regularly being cleaned. The entire hotel could definitely use a deep clean and some upgrade
BEWARE!!! I booked a room with Reservation Desk….. they are a FRAUD!! They booked me a room at El Capitan and Charged me $160.00 for a hotel that’s run down plus $20.00 for parking. And ended up sleeping in my car, due to no rooms. I am now disputing this!
My stay was excellent. They clearly work very hard to keep the building clean. My room with a sink was great. Had a huge closet. Could be a bedroom for a child. Super quiet. Funny when people order the least expensive rooms because they don’t have a private bath and then complain that it doesn’t have one. Hotel is in a great location. The value for room in SF is outstanding.
Not sure why the reviews are so bad. For this price in the city it’s a great deal. The place is a little shabby but not terrible. Rooms got a tv, fridge, and a sink. Worst thing is the communal bathrooms, be warned it is BYO Toilet Paper. Heard about bed bugs in some of the other reviews, but I personally just sprayed down the bed and threw a sleeping bag over it so I didn’t have any problems. All in all if you have the right expectations and need to save money it’s not a bad choice.
