Courtyard by Marriott Rochester East/Penfield

A couple of unplanned circumstances found me in Courtyard by Marriott Rochester East/Penfield: a pet emergency (the Rochester Emergency Veterinary Services (REVS) hospital is nearby), a 90 minute drive from my home, and bad weather that made that drive a bit too much for me. My pet wasn't going to be discharged that day, and rather than make the round trip drive and coming back in the morning, I booked a room. I tend to book at Marriott properties when I travel, and this one was minutes from REVS. This is a small property, but the service could have rivaled the fanciest of Marriotts. The front desk was welcoming and had me checked in and on my way to my room in minutes. Other staff, from the Bistro breakfast service to housekeeping was warm and welcoming. For the most part we enjoyed our stay at the hotel. Free WiFi was great and the room was spacious and comfortable. The bed was awesome. We didn’t use the pool as it seemed cold. When I booked the room for our High School reunion, the website mentioned breakfast. We didn’t expect we would have to pay for it. Even little Super 8 offers free breakfast, but that ticked me off. Be forewarned, the breakfast is NOT FREE!

Positive: We've stayed at the Penfield Courtyard by Marriott hotel for three consecutive years, and each time it's felt welcoming and homey. The rooms/beds are aesthetically pleasing, comfy beds, the staff is wonderful, and the food selections are delicious. Negative: ""

We needed a place to stay for a late evening arrival, early morning departure. While we were only there for about 9 hours we decided we would happily choose this hotel again. Such nice employees, with excellent customer service and communication skills. The room was spacious and clean. 2 queens, and we had 4 people-2 adults, 2 teens. It did not feel overcrowded. Easy to find. Safe feeling neighborhood. The only complaint I have (which is not enough to remove a star) is that one of my kids doesn’t like a pitch black room, so we cracked the curtain slightly. We were on the second floor, so the parking lot lights were pretty intense coming in. Next time, I’d just bring a small night light and keep the curtains closed. No big deal.

The hotel is a good, clean, reliable place to stay if you need a hotel. I've stayed here many times over the last 30+ years. I'm sad they got rid of the hot tub though. I loved that after the drive it takes me to get here. However, it's still a pleasant place to stay.
