Courtyard by Marriott Greenville Downtown

I was deciding between staying at The Loft and the Courtyard. I was interested in trying The Loft since I had never stayed with that Marriott brand before. However, I ultimately chose the Courtyard because it was $20 per night cheaper. At checkout, I was surprised to discover that I was being charged an additional $20 per night for parking. This fee was not disclosed at check-in, and as a Lifetime Gold member with 476 stays at Marriott, I have never before been charged for parking. While the parking charge may technically be mentioned, it appears only in small print on a page you have to click through to view, making it very easy to miss. I have file a report with the FTC report number 196863576.

Positive: It was a good location. Negative: The hotel was without power for 6 of the hours I was there. I ask for a refund at 8:30 asked again at 11. Talked to the manager that morning she assured me she would fix it. Never heard from her or the general manager. This is the worst customer service!

Highlights! Firstly, The location couldn't have been better. We were in town to see Hamilton and it was a five minute walk to the Peace Ctr, if that. Easy access from the public garage directly to the hotel was a nice plus. Secondly, we were greeted at reception by a professional and cheerful young man, Zy'air. He lit up the room and all I can say is any hotel would be fortunate to have him at the front desk greeting guests. Lastly, the room was very clean, nice lighting options throughout, and had all the typical amenities. Bathroom was nice with a generous supply of everything! Great water pressure, too:-)|Lowlights. Although we loved the layout of the room. (the bed was situated against a side wall with the head of the bed facing to the window so you could look out and see the lit trees

Good location, especially if you are attending an event at the Peace Center which is directly across the street (which we were attending). The staff was polite and professional, but the rooms are showing their age. The mattress in our room needed to be replaced - or at least rotated. The room and bathroom were clean, but the fixtures like the mattress are showing the effects of time. It's not 'terrible', but I cannot recommend it either. There are multiple hotels within a quarter mile that I will try next.

Terrible service when we became ill and had to cancel. We were part of a group staying for a wedding. Avoid this place for group events like weddings, they have a special cancellation policy, and different staff have different versions of the policy, which is not available in writing. We spent hours on the phone with different people 2 days before the check-in date, and still ended up being charged half of our reservation cost. Many times staff just hung up or said they would call back but then did not. If you are not part of a group there is a written cancellation policy that allows cancellation for no charge up to 48 hours before.
